Need a point in the right direction from the Canada and Alaska guys

Very strong possibility (baring any unforeseen it will happen) that I will be moving from Utah to Alaska, I will be taking a moving truck and my personal truck with a trailer. I have a very substantial collection of firearms and was wondering what I will encounter at the Canadian boarder? I was hoping someone from Canada or Alaska could point me to a website with information regarding how to cross the boarder legally and with the least amount of potential grief to due my firearms. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks...Jeff

P.S. I can not wait for the extended sledding season of Alaska!!!

pay to ship them up...much less headache then trying to drive them over...pick a good gundealer(like wild west guns here in anchorage and pay them to take deleivery and hold them for you...) site wise try canadian customs....http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/menu-eng.html

Not a bad idea, I had not thought of that, would be a small fortune in FFL fees (maybe I could negotiate a package deal) but may be the way to go. I will check into Wild West guns. Thanks!

do you know any police officers? they normally get a break on shipping firearms...also you might check with fed-ex..used to be they could ship arms up here(not sure if they still can)

Yes I do, being with the Fire Department we work with them on a regular basis, I will ask a couple of them. I believe shipping long guns and Curios and Relics is okay with UPS and Fed Ex but non C&R pistols have to be shipped FFL to FFL, I will have to look more into that. Even the extra cost may out weigh crossing the border with them, great idea to look into though. I just pulled up Wild West Guns to get their contact information. I will be going to the Fairbanks area so I will also look for one there. Thanks...Jeff

P.S. Now that I think about it, my gun (pistol) being returned from Ruger was shipped UPS overnight back to me. Have to do some checking.

When I brought my guns up it wasn't that big of deal, I had to sign a paper, pay some cash and they checked the serial #'s. Whole thing took less than 15 minutes.

Really? Come on man do not burst my bubble. Has to be past the end of April and before the end of November where I live now? Might have to rethink this move:)

I usually ride Oct - May but this year has sucked we didn't get to ride till 1st of Nov.

I take it that was at the border? How much cash, if you remember?

I thought it was $50.00 per gun but they charged me for one, I brought 6 all locked in cases. Not sure on the price it was a few years ago.

Well that is a little better than where I am now, I took my first ride a few days ago but it was half dirt and half snow, had to do it though! I do not mind paying the cash, I just do not want to be held up at the border like an American Redneck (even though I am) and sent to some cold Canadian prison.

Just don't try and bring any beef jerkey with ya, you'd think you were smugglin mexicans! :D

If you've got an address here already then package them up and mail them to yourself. No hassle no paperwork BUT NO pistola's either. FFL'S FOR HANDGUNS.

I UPS'ed an H and K hand gun to my buddy back in Colorado a while back that he left at my house but I sent it field stripped in pieces in about four different boxes, that would probably be cost prohibited. I may do that though with my long guns and C&R's to my buddy who is already living in Fairbanks.
