Was sledding with the family today - sled ran excellant all day (as it usually does). Did about 40 miles. No snow ingestion, no overheating, proper warmups all the time.
Sled pooped on me 100 yards from my house (good thing) it was dark and I hate farting around at night when a sled goes down.
Whats my best options guys?
Fix it and trade it in for new 2011?
Fix it with some minor porting and head work?
Fix it with the stock parts and keep running it?
Ask dealer if its a possible voltage regulator issue and get dealer to fix it and get some warranty after?
Sled has SLP pipe/HPS can, SLP airhorn, venting everywhere. Clutched right. 1800 miles. Warranty is off.
Never thought I would see a 700 motor go down.
Looks like detonation on the mag side. I have been burning regular fuel since day 1.

Got the rest of the motor tore down and the mag
side connecting rod bearing was shot. Explains all the metal pieces every where. Just one little scar on the jug that hopefully will clean up.
PTO side was all good. Also noticed the pistons were single ring. Thought they should have been 2-ring pistons.
Looks like an expensive rebuild now.

Does anybody have or know somebody that has a 2008 700 RMK motor that they are willing to possibly sell minus the electronics?

I have the SAME sled and setup down the slp pipe and hps can. Sled had 1500 miles and the crank snout/primary clutch fell off while i was honestly cruising down the trail after a half day of only 18 miles. My pistons also have one ring. And of course it happens after my warranty ran out. I rebuilt mine myself like my last sled, 03 800 escape that the crank bearing went out, oh and by the way I also shattered a piston on the first sled i got- 02 800 edge. All these sleds were clutched according to SLP, I've only ran Polaris gold oil and 91 octane. I'm now going 1 ski- yz450f/Mountain horse kit. Its getting pretty darn hard to stay loyal to Polaris. good luck bud

Thanks for the replys guys. Able to rebuild it locally with a rebuilt crank and 2 new 2-ring pistons. Cylinder turned out to be better than we thought also.

Sounds like quite a few of these 700's go down around that 1500-2000 mile mark. Would definiltly advise checking the top ends of these motors at 1500 miles and replacing the pistons at least. My PTO piston skirts were also pretty thin.
My 2002 700 RMK I had the top end done at 5000 miles and it didnt really need it - what gives with this newer technology?
