My truck crapped out HELP!!!

Sounds like the muffler bearings are bad. They overheated the blinker fluid reservoir and it overflowed and shorted out the flux capacitor.

I hope this helps.LOL

If the battery and connections check out good, I vote for the ignition switch. I've put quite a few in the newer chevy's for odd electrical problems. It would be nice to scan it for codes. When the ignition switches go usually there are quite a few codes that will set. Good luck

MY money is on the battery and the fuel pump. As stated earlier, the fuel pump sits in the tank and needs to be in fuel to keep cool. My wife used to run our GM truck on empty all the time. I would tell her to go put gas in it and it comes back with an 1/8 of a tank. Used to drive me nuts.

It is a 2003? I can almost gurantee you that it is the fuel pump. The one on my 2003 went and I know 3 other guys that had the fuel pump go on them. Mine went on Christmas Eve this past winter. I had my truck idling out front of my brothers house. I came outside, the truck had quit running, the lights were still on, the heater blower was still blowing, but the truck would not start. It would crank, but would not catch. After some research I found this to be quit common on the 03's.

Reliability Data

CATEGORY RATING COMMENTS
Transmission & Driveline Infrequent problems reported, all with low repair cost
Steering & Suspension Infrequent problems reported, all with low repair cost
Engine An occasional problem on this vehicle is failure of the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Failure of the Crankshaft Position Sensor can cause the engine to not start or stall. A periodic problem on this vehicle is failure of the Catalytic Converters (on 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L engines only).
Brake An occasional problem on this vehicle is the Front Wheel Speed Sensor(s). Failure of the Front Wheel Speed Sensor(s) can cause false cycling of the ABS brakes.
Heating & Air Conditioning Infrequent problems reported, all with low repair cost
Starting & Charging An occasional problem on this vehicle is the failure of the Ignition Lock Cylinder and Housing Assembly. This engages the antitheft system and prevents the engine from starting.
Accessories An occasional problem on this vehicle is failure of the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).

This thread needs more help than one can provide. Please read the first post, the truck won't turn over so how in the world can one condemn so many different parts (fuel pump, battery, crank sensor etc)? A code reader won't do much good if you have little or no battery power. My advice: take it to a mechanic!

I agree with the battery/ fuse issue. Check all the fuses under the hood & at the fuse panel. Then grab a known good battery & hook it up to your truck-removing the original. Theres a good chance the fuel pump overheated & shorted to ground blowing a main fuse. When you remove the battery to install a good one it should reset the computer if the alarm system disabled the ignition for whatever reason. Still think its a fuse/battery issue IMO.

Like I said, put a battery in it if its not even cranking over. The lights in the dash will be on if the key is in the run position but not running. If you roll the key to the start position they will turn off even if the vehicle does not start, but will come back on when the key is returned to the run position. It could be possible that the fuel pump is bad aswell, but you wont really know until you can get it to crank over.

When youre in a parking lot and notice a chevy truck rolling through, notice how loud the fuel pumps are, usually you can hear them over the exhaust. They run more pressure than others (like 60psi, others like 45psi) plus running them low is not good to them as previously mentioned.

6 years on a battery is about a year longer than the normal life in those pickups. A shorted out battery can not be jumped and it makes dash lights and gauges unreal when you try the starter. Try a battery, you need one anyway. This especially happens in hot weather.

I have been having a couple problems with my s10 blazer when suddenly it died, all electrical off, and came back to life twice on the way home I reset the battery connections and that problem has not occured again but it started giving me the solonoid click, click when trying to start so for gp I replaced the starter and solonoid, problem continued so I replaced the Positive cable and the problem went away, continuity at the connector to the battery must have been corroded inside, had enough power to run everything, even the start solonoid but not the starter at times. Oh and I did replace the negative cable also. Swampy:eek::beer;

Same thing with a '00 1500

I had the same thing with my 2000, 1500. 5.3
It would crank but never catch or turn over; I could not hear the pump run when I first turned the key on. (I hit the tank with a trailer hitch alos) The gear indicator on the dash did not show what gear I was in the lights were all on. And I could not shift my transfer case into neutral (Holding the 4Hi and the 4Lo buttons for the 4whell drive)

Checked the fuse had the relay checked and I had put a new fuel filter on.
So I changed the fuel pump last night. Works like a champ now it seams like I have more power now also don’t know if that’s true, unless with the pump going bad it was not putting out the pressure it should?
Gear selector works right now but the ABS light on the dash was on I drove around the block and it went out,My guess is because of the towing. (Gas gage works now also)

Good luck!!

Mine wont even crank?:confused:

Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes and then hook it back up again.

That will reset the computer...........

Sometimes these computers take a temporary dump, and need to be reset......

Try it

Well I checked the battery and fuses and all is well there so its on to te next thing. I'll keep everyone posted.

How did you check the battery? What voltage did you have? What do you have for voltage at the starter? You say it won't turn over, right? The ignition switch is not the next step! Give us some details and i would be glad to help you.....

First thing that threw me was the engine that wont crank over. The first thing i would do is check the oil level , and then verify the crank will spin. Put a breaker bar and socket on the crank bolt , or just try to spin it with the belt.

:confused::confused:

Well to catch ya'll up. I just tested the bttery via multimeter and it looked fine but decided to take it in for a load test and sure enough only 10 cold cranking amps on a 770 CCA battery but the 3 yr replacement warranty made it a freebie (score!!). Put it in and still nothing so I triple checked the fuses and found a ECM fuse blown (I swear it wasnt there before :o) Replaced and viola it turns over...... but still no start. Fuel pump still not kicking on and I'm sure it was getting close so that the next step and hopefully the last :confused:

I'll let ya know hopefully I'll be able to take it camping this weekend.
