I just did it, I bought a '91 Mercedes S350D Turbo and have ordered a kit to convert it to run on waste vegetable oil. When all is said and done I will be getting about 125 mpg for the fuel I am buying ( it needs to start and shutdown on diesel, but then run on WVO). Managing a facility with a restaurant I have access to over 20 gallons of FREE WVO a week. My fuel bill is going from $260 per month to about $20 (AND will have less than $5,000 total into it), HOORAY ! ! ! !

Pimpin' and lovin' it!

You should wear a turbin and jerusalem cruisers with an AK pimpin that ride SS :D

Hey Sturg

Can you run it on used donut cooking oil? Can't remember if thats animal based.

Any type of vegetable oil will work in your Greasecar, including hydrogenated oils. As long as the oil is filtered and free from water, bacterial and chemical contamination, it can be burned in a Greasecar.

time

the filtering process is very time consuming. almost not worth it. but if you really need to save, good luck.
my buddy had built one, causing him to spend all sunday boiling and filtering grease fuel. from a 55 gal drum.
transfering from there to the kettle was cumbersome and messy. he had a kettle to liquify it, then through some cheap oil filters, and to heated tank. it was all homade but probably similar.

I have a home built set-up in my powerstroke. It works awesome but the filtering and the collecting is ALOT of work and dirty. I have a 4x8 shed in my yard I built just for Filtering it that way all the mess stays in there. It is sure nice to be able to drive from the twin cites to west yellowstone and back for free.

Going to use an imersion heater to heat it instead of a recycled hot water heater but here is what I'm building to filter the grease.

Here's an update, I have all of the parts for my oil filtration system, I have a BUNCH of WVO and my kit is SUPPOSED to arrive tomorrow, Thanks Good To Go for stopping in and checking on my kit. I did have a bump in the road yesterday tho, the bolt holding the fan onto the water pump came out and threw the fan through the radiator ($320 for a new radiator) and broke the fan, the fan blade lists for $389 but I got one from a junkyard in NJ for $43 shipped. So I will have a BUNCH of parts to start intalling and should be up and running on WVO within a month, HOORAY ! ! ! !

OK went thru the kit and one item was back-ordered, they say 7 - 10 days but who knows, it's the FPHE (Flat Plate Heat Exchanger). But not a big deal as I won't have my radiator until Friday at the earliest. Lots of pieces/parts and should be fun to install. I found some local help for the install so I am hoping that as soon as I get everything I will be jumping in and getting the install done.

Get out of town....?! you mean the dang thing got there...? I was seriously looking forward to another visit. The second visits are ALWAYS more interesting.

Let me know if the 'back-ordered' part becomes a problem.... :p
