my cummins went very fast today, for the first time ever?

up till to day the fastest i ever got it was 74 down hill?

but to day i had it denting the floor bord just like normal at 71 like it always is and then it just started going faster. so i let it go, it got up to 85 before i had to let out. what happen? why all of a suden did it get a hair up its @ss and go?

i didn't even think it could go 85 with those gears?

Maybe she is starting to break in finally, I had a 90 12v and that thing was bulletproof, had it for 14 years with 610k on it and still pulled like a train.
91 mph up any hill max and 91 down any hill max.
 
I have a 89 with a bale bed on it. I know the throttle linkage on them can get bent, as in the case on mine.

Any change in RPM? A increase in speed would require either more RPM or finding another gear.
 
it was turning more rpms i can tell that, how much i have no idea. in 2nd 3rd and 4th the truck just falls on its face when you go out of its power band. and untill to day it would do that in 5th right at 60-65 mph but to day it just had more and it went to 84-85 and still had more i think but i let off. i drive the same way every day, and has never done this before?

I had one of those days with my old 1500 ram.Had her up to 98 then later that week my over drive went out....down hill from there...
 
Says you got a "turned up pump", tell me what you've done. Thats strange that your RPMs picked up considering you haven't played with the govenor spring. Do you have the stock spring in it or have you put the 366 spring in (3200rpm governor)? Might be possible that something changed/wore inside the VE pump but I don't see how it could?
 
the i got it from said it had the pump turned up? it idles a little high for my liking. don't think the gov spring has been messed with. i just got the truck 2 weeks ago. can a cloged fuel filter do somthing like this? this truck in every gear just falls on its face, i just thought it was at 2600. thats what all cummins i have ever drove have done but there all 96 or neewer?
 
I have a really nice 97 F-350 Crew Cab with 6" lift, and 36" Mickeys. I keep thinking Id like to drop an old mechanical Cummins 5.9 in it, but it is alot of work. The adapter kits seem pretty good. Man, that would make it a perfect truck for what I use it for. Probalby way more power, and would get better than the 11 mpg I get now too... :D
 
its not all that bad now days, you can find a lot of school buses that have that motor in them, then just put what ever tranny you want behind it. i say go for it. mine so far is geting 16-17 with 4.11s and mashed to the floor all the time.
 
Isnt there an adapter kit to run the E40D tranny? With upgrades, its not a bad tranny, and then everything would fit. I guess a guy could also buy a transfer case and tranny from an old 4x4 dodge with the 12V in it. A few adapters, and it would probably work. But, Id think that the E40D with a diesel converter should work.
My gearing should be fine too, cause at 60 mph Im only reving 1750 or so with the 36"s I have 4:10s with OD and the 36" mickeys.
