How long will the transmisssions hold up to this new power? I have heard they have had trouble holding up with the stock power
Phase IV
As I quickly learned talking to David...I had disparaged his shop on-line as I had seen peoples claims of 70hp plus builds coming from him. I did not know at the time that I initially spoke with him that this was the case...as I did not previously know him. But he sure knew who I was! All I can say about that conversation is that David is quite a man, and basically challenged me to bring my bike to him so that he could show me he and his families magic. He promised me that he could get my motor putting out over 70 hp, on his or any other dyno. I told him that I would be collaborating his dyno numbers with my friend Nels...and he said "Bring it!"
I loaded up my bike and assorted parts and drove the 12 hours to his shop in Nowheresville Idaho. He has assured me that all of the porting and mods could be done in a single day...but I was disbelieving. Boy was I wrong! After doing an initial dyno run on his dyno, my bike produced 64.8 hp on his dyno...which was only a little less than the 66.25 hp that it had registered on Nels dyno. I was initially suspecting that his dyno was going to read higher than Nels had.
Then things started happening so fast it was hard to comprehend... The Lloyd brothers and son Karson had my head off of my bike and disassembled on the bench in under 15 minutes...wow!
The whole build time from initial dyno run to back together was around 6.5 hours...and this included porting my Air-Force intake to match the 47mm RP Race Throttle body that I had brought, and porting matching the intake boot to the throttle body and head. He also ported my head.
Phase IV Build - Lloyd Performance
Teal Blue line on the first dyno sheet.
Built Motors 550 big bore kit with 14:1 piston
Fuel Pump modified to produce more pressure
47mm RP Race Throttle Body.
Air-Force intake
Intake, intake boot, and head ported by Lloyds performance
Lloyd Performance cam
RP race 450sx complete exhaust (apparently the head pipe on the 500 is too big)
Vortex ECU programed by 2-Wheel Dyno-Werks.
GET ECU programed by Lloyd Performance.
Both ECU's produced the same results
Both the dyno in Idaho and the one in Washington showed nearly identical results on the same fuel.
73.59 hp and 46.07 ft/lbs of torque on 92 pump gas.
75.5 hp and 46.82 ft/lbs of torque with a splash of MR12 in the tank.
Beyond Stunned! I was there, and have seen both dyno's produce nearly exactly the same results...and I am still in shock!
David has told me that with a 50mm Throttle Body, and a slightly more aggressive cam, that I should be able to make an additional 4+ hp....and I believe him! That will have to wait until next summer when the snow melts.
Thank you to David, David's brothers, Karson, and Nels for all the help on this combo!
If anyone wants to make some serious hp...give Lloyd Performance a call.
Im still riding Chris's bike and it is a monster! I was just thinking the other day about getting it back to LLoyd's for a tune up.I know it's an old thread, maybe this info will help others out. I feel the foundation Chris laid here allowed me to jump straight into a known working combination of parts.
I honestly took David's advice from this two year old post and went with a more aggressive cam and larger throttle body. Just got back from Lloyd's performance yesterday, Karson, David and uncle Ben worked their magic on my 500.
Parts installed:
- Cylinder head porting done by Lloyd's Performance.
- Intake from Lloyd's Performance (no filter on dyno run)
- RP Exhaust
- RP 50mm throttle body
- DCR Cam (V4 Pro grind)
- Built Motors 550 kit.
Bike made 77hp on their dyno running 91 pump. I'll swap out the exhaust flange for the twisted development unit and run the bike again on a local dyno.
Overall I'm very excited this season.
