Well, I started out this season with my TApex. After my first trip out west in Nov. and test riding a few 2011 Polaris I had to go and pick on up myself. I decided to part out my Apex, and purchase a new 2011 Standard 800 RMK.
I rode the sled one time here in MN, it worked great out of the box, but was a little under powered for my liking, coming from a 300 hp Yammy, the stock Polaris felt like a 120. After putting 25 miles on the sled, I gave Justin at Silber Turbos a call to discuss some turbo options. We wasn't ready to release his kit yet due to some tuning issues, so I got put on the waiting list.
About two weeks later, Justin called me and said he would have time to help me install my turbo kit. I planned for a good two days installing the kit. 5 hours went by and it was finished. I spent the rest of the day picking his brain about the numerous questions I had. The turbo kit was a complete bolt on unit. All the parts were ceramic coated, and he had polished all the aluminum parts. His billet throttle body boot was a work of art.
I just returned from a 3 week trip in West Yellowstone, staying with a few local friends. I even met up with Silber for a few rides. The sled flat out works amazing. I rode my first 5 days on this trip and never touched my control box, this is no lie. When I rode with Silber he asked me if the sled was acting funny and what the gauges were reading. I told him I didnt know as I haven't been watching them cause the sled just works. Well Silber made me change 1 light setting on the control box, and it made the bottom end more responsive. I changed the yellow blue setting down 1 light.
The only problem with this setup is in very deep snow carving to the right you can get it to pipe plug. Silber has been testing a new exhaust modification and his sled wouldn't do it. It still makes the exhaust a bolt on unit with no modifications to the chassis. Which is nice as I don't want to drill any holes into my tunnel. That was one of the biggest reason I went with his turbo kit.
My last day of riding, my sled just shut off on me and I couldn't figure out why. I looked over all the wiring and connections. Sled didnt have any spark. Finally after wiggling the key switch the sled started. Ran great the rest of the day.
I blew one belt, that I knew was going to go after getting stuck in a creek and smoking it a few times. It lasted 2 days after that. $180 for a new one in that town ouch.
Over all I am very pleased with my Silber kit. It never once let me down in 3 weeks of riding every day. I only had to add a few onces of oil to the turbo oil tank twice. Like stated above, the only time I touched the control box was when Justin pulled up along side me and told me to change the one setting. The sled makes amazing power, I ran 12 psi most of the time with 50/50 race gas mix. Some days I turned it up to 15 psi. I could get the sled to det on the trail as it would over rev. My sled out performed almost every mod sled I rode with, turboed m8's and 1000's. Only thing that would beat it in a long run were some turboed Nytros running 21 psi of boost. The little old polaris would destroy them off the line though.
Again thanks to Justin at Silber Turbos, you made my winter that much more enjoyable.
