Muddy Creek Parking issues! (Rabbit Ears Pass)

Today I had the misfortune of running into the biggest group of azzhat snowmobilers ever. I arrived at the MC lot at around 9am to find that the lot was taken over by nothing but campers. They had trailers, trucks and sleds parked every which way to "reserve" parking spaces for their buddies that had not yet arrived. That is Bullchit! As I surveyed the lot to find a spot to park in I noticed that one group had actually "reserved" a spot with traffic cones!

I knocked on the doors of two campers to find out who they belonged to. The first camper denied any knowledge of the cones. The second camper had an old man and a kid inside. I asked if the cones were theirs and he said yes. I told him that was breaking the rules that are supposed to be enforced by the USFS. (I called the USFS later to confirm that I was right, I was). I said that I was gonna park there and he replied, "Try it and I'll kick your azz! If the Forest Service has these rules, get them up here!" So, I called the USFS since they guy threatened me and they referred me to Grand County Sheriff's Dept. to report it since the guy threatened me. A Deputy was dispatched, but it was going to take about an hour for him to respond since he was on another call. Just as I got off the phone, the kid started to park sleds in the empty spot. I said "excuse me, you can't reserve a spot, I just spoke with the Forest Service and the Sheriff's Dept." at that time, some short, fat guy with black and white bandanna came around the trailer and got in my face, about an inch away and started screaming at me. He said that I should know that if I wanted a spot to park, I should get up there early. WTF!! He just spit out a double standard. Apparently it's ok for some of the group to show up early and reserve spots for their friends that can't show up early.

At this moment I was just waiting for the fat little dwarf to hit me so I could flatten his azz! I started yelling back at him and that is when 3 of his super buddies came up behind me and started moving in towards me. I will fight one guy but I certainly am not gonna try 4! I got in my truck and parked in the Dumont lot. I called the USFS again and they told the Deputy where I was going to park.

These butt heads are going to be there tomorrow since they were camping and I can almost guarantee that there are going to be some issues going down, since there are going to be a lot more riders coming up. We have enough problems with the greenies. We don't need to be fighting amongst ourselves since we are supposed to be on the same side. We need to be considerate of all of the riders that travel great and small distances to enjoy the good snow that we have had this year. Hogging parking is not a good way to do that:mad: PLEASE THINK OF YOUR FELLOW RIDER/RIDERS!

An interesting note! The old man that threatened to "kick my azz!" never came out of his trailer and the kid retreated inside when things started to get hot! I was friggin pizzed and as I was walking away, another fellow came up and told me how they had parked last night to "save spots". That is friggin wrong, guys! I double checked with the forest service and they told me that it was a Federal Violation to block, obstruct or close of any roadway, parking lot or drive on Federal land. Had an officer been available to respond everybody in that would have been cited and summoned to appear in court!
They will be sending an officer up to the area tomorrow to talk to people and issue citations. I gave very accurat descriptions of the vehicles involved and they will be the first ones that he/she visits. I hope you get your azzes handed to you! I hope that I see you chicken chit bastages on the hill!

Peace out and respect your fellow riders. We all love to enjoy the area as long as we have it!:beer;:beer;:beer;:mad::mad:

We gotta preserve our riding areas and refer all people to Vail pass or other parking lots besides muddy creek. I am will no longer refer to it as muddy creek and will remove the location from the sledmods.com map. I love going there and camping in that lot. I've had some great times and i hate to see it get spoiled from some azzholes.

sorry to hear that. it makes it worse if it was "out of towners". i rarely go back into that lot because of that.....not so much the "saved" spots, just if some dimwit blocks the way, you are kind of screwed getting out.....especially if there is deep snow. i never understand why people don't pull in like there are "parking lines" drawn in....you know, kind of angled so you can just pull in and slide into the next guy. even in the dumont lot, guys park based on what direction they have come over the pass.....if you are the first there, pull all the way to one end and angle in. next guy follows suit. is it really rocket surgery? i have to say the last two years at rabbit ears have not been great. A LOT MORE people, and a LOT more than haven't a clue and are azzhats. still love to ride there when the snow is good, but have run in to quite a few groups in the last two years that really were heading for trouble, but oblivious to what could happen to them......i.e. whiteout, etc. make sure those guys get the shaft. no problems with visitors here.....but A BIG problem with the HOT she-ite, poser flatlander......and this comes from a former flatlander.

That kind of attitude doesn't suprise me too much. It would be funny to be there when the popo write them up, except that you would probably have to be there to testify to the facts in court also.

Yep, there's some real self entitled pricks out there:( It's gonna be a zoo up there this weekend. Is the grizz lot accessible? Last I heard the road was drifted over and they haven't opened it up?

You couldn't park going down the lane towards the hwy? My daddy put it to me like this... there are 10,000,000 idiots in the world today. If you capped one off every day of your life, when you die, there will still be 9,970,800 idiots left... why waste your time. Fire one up and let go of your angry bad whiteness.

So you are saying you advocate smoking Marijuana.

I do agree, about "letting go of your anger" Nothing good will come of it.

My guess is that the cops won't do much about it either unless a law that they commonly enforce is broken or a safety issue.

Yes, I am advocating that anyone who is ready throw down over a parking space when they could go 50' to the left and park wherever they want needs to smoke a big fatty in a baddddd way. It's the Indian way you didn't know?

You couldn't exactly go 50' to the left or right to park. Chit today, there were no parking spots. By 10am the were all full. The MC lot looked as if somebody had just dropped rigs in there randomly!

I wasn't ready to throw down over parking. I asked nicely that they remove the parking cones that they had used to reserve spots for buddies that weren't there yet. When I rode through there today, that space was still vacant, there were just a few sleds there blocking a parking spot big enough for a King Cab long bed with a 4 place trailer. The Dumont lot had people parked in two different directions and they had met in the middle in the form of a "V" and if parked parallel you could have fit 4 more trucks and trailers in there.

People just need to pull their heads outta their azzes and be courteous. I don't care if they are from Denver or another state, that doesn't give them the right to park like they own the deed to the property. I don't think that it is fair that people have to turn around and head home (that is what CSP makes them do if they get caught trying to park on the side of the road) because there is no place to park, it's not fair to them. If peeps would just use common sense, there should be more than enough space for everybody up there to park and go riding.

hope that group was'nt from iowa, it just gives the rest of us a bad rep. we were at grizzly creek 10 days ago, you can drive up to where the road y's off ,there is plenty of room to turn rigs around and park along the side of the road , then it is maybe 2 miles up the road for the sleds to go. talked to the road crew up there and they were not going to open thr rest of the road anytime soon. best part of the lot being closed is we had the place to ourselves, no parking hassles like the other lots. the road guys did not care if we parked on the side.

Lol Greg. They were parked like a bunch of demolition derby cars up there today. It was pretty pathetic. Oh well, par for the couse i guess. We got there at 8:30 and got the last spot. By 4 the place was a ghost town. Saw two other sleds off trail the whole day.

Was up this weekend, was a zoo with all the huge coach style motorhomes. They parked so there was 20ft form one to the other. Sad part is they didnt ride , just hung out in the lot and were very rude. The kind of people that thought since they got there first we can hog the whole lot.

Got there at 8 on saturday. Could barely turn around with all the dumba$$ parked in the way. You would of thought you were asking for a huge favor for them to move ahead or get their sled out of the way. I don't understand whats so hard about it.

I'll post an example of how these jackazzes parked on Saturday at the Dumont lot. All Colorado plates, wrote them down and every single one of them was from the Front Range. These people should know better.
