MTX tunnel work

No I don,t think it would weeken it, I am going to do something like that with mine this summer, you could support it with some aluminum strap like VE does if you thank it needs more support.

I am not a fabricator. I do however have practical experience with the stock Nytro tunnel.

I have modified my suspension, otherwise I would be placing a warranty claim on my tunnel. The running boards are too large and because of the additional leverage they bend and crack more easily. It looks like you are aware of this and are trying to mitigate the problem.

My stock tunnel looks new yet but I just wished the tunnel was not as wide in the rear.

Ok answered your pm and figured this was close enough to the top I wouldn't start a new thread. Here are some pics of my tunnel mod and no it wont weaken it, mine is probably stronger than before. I took the other idea a little further instead of running the edge all the way back I killed it into the tunnel and then tapered the tunnel from 0 to about an inch to inch and a quarter at the tail, you need to raise the bumper all the way to where the bend starts. I then added a 1/8 thick by 1 1/2 aluminum bar the entire length and drilled 3/4 inch holes in it for looks. Should go thru the pow much better, by the way the skid is coming out tomorrow if anyone wants it make me a decent offer throwing it in swapmeet. Goin holz and a 162"!

Disclaimer- You need a torch to heat the edge to bend it more acetalene than oxygen unless you want a puddle!

Here's mine. Stronger, less drag, and looks better. I shortened it 5" for the 144, cut off the running boards and bent them up, welded the rail edge, and tapered the back and ran strap along the sides and under the better boards. I'm going to change it again and shorter the running boards alittle more to make a Phazer MTX bumper work.

OK finished the tunnel and commenced on putting the holz in. Ditch the drop brackets I have never seen such an over engineered piece in my life each side weighs 5 lbs on a scale putting timbersleds universals in cuz thats what is laying around very nice fit and finish. Stock skid came in at 65 lbs on the scale! holz 45lbs so total weight loss with skid and brackets comes in at 28 lbs minus exhaust another 11lbs 39 lbs easy
