MTNDOO Please build a snowbike with this!!!

I looked at it very closely. With help from AJ at service, I just about did. A 2013CR500 FI. They are running them on the dyno as of last year. Full production will cost millions to go world wide. They haven't decided to go production yet. I was offered a CR500 FI they have there. I chose the 40MM Smart Carb. Was not a mistake. Metering rod set at 1180F EGT and was perfect all winter. The FI would not have been as easy to make run perfect and consistent, day after day...

Interesting! The bike just rips!! I will have a snow bike one day, love this section!!!

what I like about the possibility of FI is that it should be super easy to put a turbo in....just imagine a turbo cr500 !!!!

That has been done by "Turbo Performance", Brice and I discussed it for a snow bike.... would be the ultimate! 2 stroke turbo's are amazing!

One of Millar Racing Engines customers has a 500 turbo. I would think with the Smartcarb being as good as it is would make it even easier to turbo. That would be cool for sure lol

what about the vibration. things just fall apart because they shake so bad!!
Unless the aftermarket builders are able to make run smooth as a thumper it just dont seem like the best idea!

was it FI or did they do it with a carb?

It was a carb, the origional design. I ran turboed/carbed sleds and worked perfectly, but you had to dial it in first... APT is using their Smart Carb under boost. The boost works exactly the same as barometric changes. No tuning, no messing, spot on under boost. I will visit with Corey some more about it. I think it will be easy and not a tuner. Pretty cool

Why have a fuel injection system when you can have a carb at a fraction of the price ? That 500FI runs no better than the Smarty ?

Nice build.....but fuel injection on two-strokes has been around for quite a long time.

It's a no brainer. I have ridden both FI 2 strokes and FI 4 strokes. The Smart Carb beats them in every way... Literally! EFI was awesome when they figured out how to make it "basically work" for recreation vehicles. Then they quit right there... It is like having an old school carb that does "not" have changeable jets. That is worse! You get a basic "squirt" and that's all. A carb can be jetted to perfection and out performs EFI. The exact same engines will produce 8-10% more hp from a carb. Bikes, sleds, cars, rails, etc.. it's true. Now the "Smart Carb" technology keeps progressing. With the new FCR Technology, EFI has a lot of catching up to do.

Not as good. maps maps maps to marry to ignition curves. Then you're stuck with what you got. It's electrical and "cool", but ... ask AJ at Service and the Tech's who are testing it. You slap on a SMart Carb and win Pikes Peak at 14000 ft and no tuning. Beats everything

If you talk to APT about the future they say that EFI is very expensive and it will come down to who can build the cheapest emission fuel efficient engines.

They also said that the EPA will mandate all fuel systems for power sports will not be able to lose a drop of fuel into the environment which all basic carbs and EFI dont currently meet but the Smarty on the other hand does. Interesting stuff !

I love their research ! Would like to hear about their secret drone stuff lol
