mtn tamer ?

just an idea, you could do an M float conversion kit for about $400 & some washers, re-valve the float, pull the bogie wheels, put a ti spring on the front, and now you're still WAY less than a mtn tamer, maybe 1/2 lb heavier, and a bit stronger.

Just another option. The mtn tamer is a great suspension as long as you don't slam into stuff or jump a lot, they're a bit weaker than stock (as many lightweight things are) I've seen too much timbersled stuff bend to be a fan, but if you 99% boondock I think it could be a very good suspension.

had thought about that too. Do like the idea of it being stronger. Do you know if the float coversion works better that stock or is it mostly just weight savings? Thanks

Skid

I installed a timber sled rear skid on 03.5 900. I had to order the 07 m rails and make longer rear suspension mounts, when I was done the rear of the sled sat 34.5" in the air, it felt like I was going over the bars all the time. So I made new chrome molly A-arms and ran a 18" long M shock, this made the front higher and the back now sits at 30" to the bumper, Its a lot of work but it made the sled climb 30-40' more on the hill and it bondocks great. The mtn. tamer skid is the best in my opinion. If someone tells me how to post pic I will put some one here.

Many people use photobucket to post pics. Just make a (free) account there, upload the picture and copy the "" tagged address into your reply. There are some instructions in this thread if you read through it:

To me, the float is 100% better than the torsion spring setup, and pretty easy to swap over.

What kind of riding do you do?

mostly boondocking, use trails to get where were going and traction when we cross them. Leaning towards float conversion.

I would sugest if you can get with someone that has a Mtn Tamer on there sled once you ride one you will be able to tell it's night and day in not only the ride but the way the skid puts an even psi across the rail and allows the sled to float and get on top of the snow. Easy to adjust with some simple use of shims takes about 5 min to adjust it to your needs.

Many freestyle guys run this skid without issue and Allan stands behind his product.

In the link Allan has some close specs for you to adjust the skid to also fit kit is an easy install for any rail you have.

Justin, I know YOU stand behind your stuff, but I've got to disagree with that statement. My wife is 105 lbs & bent the piss out of the skid without any real incident, just dropping cornices & jumping every day. I was trying not to be too nasty about timberjunk, but I just can't see a comment like that & not say anything.

Btw, he charged me WAY too much to replace the couple parts I could afford to replace, and was not interested in helping her out at all. I was not impressed.

Maybe the product & the service has changed, but when you piss off a customer that has spent $1500 on something, you better expect them to not be so nice in return.

Allen's customer service is heads and tails above the rest I used to sell about every skid on the market now just two because of this. There has been changes as every good company that evolves has these changes to improve there product. The skid is on it's 3rd or 4th year now in production and it takes allot of abuse.

Below are some reviews not saying it's the best just saying it's a great skid for the money.
