Mtn Max Center Carb. Purging Gas

So I just picked up an 03 MM600 with 100 miles on it, it's been sitting in a garage for 3-4 years...it's in perfect shape but obviously has cob webs.

I pulled the carbs off yesterday because it wouldn't ide and WOW where they gummed up with old gas. After a good cleaning....the center carb is pushing gas out the side vent tube...not a little... A LOT.

Float level?? The float checked out when I had it apart....

Thanks! :beer;

x2 on the needle and seat. i have used the yamaha carb cleaner and it works wonders. kinda spendy, last qt i got was about $10. follow directions and let it soak.

So if the needle and seat are stuck. You can simply clean them or do they have to be replaced??? I got a 01 Mountain Max using gas bad, and bogging thinking its the needle and seat....

i have had good luck in the cleaning department using this type of cleaner, specifically. if you have had any experience with most yamaha dealers, parts are usually 10-14 days out. while waiting for a needle and seat once, i just filled the carb up with cleaner per directions(mix with gas), let it sit for a day or so, and presto, unstuck! i use it religuously now for maintanance and cleaning. loaned some to a buddy who had an old compactor, he used it and it ran like new after sitting for years. should be available in stock at a dealer near you-yam pt # acc-carbc-le-nr.

Hmmmmm, thanks....I'll check that seat out...that was the only carb I didn't "mouth test" the float shut-off on because it was tough to blow on.

Anyone else have issues getting the rubber boots to line up from the carbs to airbox on these Mtn Max's??

I swear it took me 30 min to get them all snugged down...longer then it took me to get the carbs off.......

I take the top half of the air box off. Then you can line up the boots and put your hand down into the air box and run them on with your fingers.

Whats the mouth test to testing the float?

Just blow through the fuel "in" line and slowly push the float up until you can't blow anymore.....just to make sure it operational within limits.......:D
