mtn cat 800 trenching

I have a 04 80efi and it has the fabcarft tunnel and holz rear skid. I put on a 162x16 mavirick and anti ratchet drivers. When i put the suspen in the stock way the rails hit the drivers. So my buddy suggested to just set it back and dropped down a little bit. Would a set back make the sled trench. THe rear susp is setup according to holzs instructions. What would help me here other than a new track.

i have an 03 800 efi two years ago i put a skidoo 151x16x2 and all that track did was dig so i went back to a 15 wide but a 153 2.25 now it seems to climb like it did with the stock track no more trenching

Yes, back and down might make it trench a bit more. Because it would change the angle of attack between the track and the snow. A steeper angle of attack = more trench.

Rixter , If the skid is mounted back it would lessen the approach angle, But is what your saying is that the whole lg. of the track has a slight downward angle? If this is the case then it will keep digging the full length? Correct me if I am wrong, As I don't want to do the same scenario either by bringing the back down further than necessary. So now maybe I see why Cat set the rear of the skid with a little clearance in the back when sitting on flat ground?

Thanks
Mike

How did you guys that put the antirachet drivers on get the rails to clear? Wouldn't moving the skid back actually decrease the angle of the track?

Moving the skid straight back would decrease the angle of attack. Most people just trim some material off the plastic cap on the rails.

Mine was in need of extreme trimming i think it had to go back like an 1". Think that is why we set it back. I wish i would have left the stock 159 on it. It climbed way better with the stock 159x15. THat track is long gone too.

When i went 159 to 162 on 159 rails i used a mountain machines axle and 9 inch wheels to eat up the extra track. The to clear the extro drivers that i put on i timed the front of the rails about 5/8 of an inch. I am also had to do some custom timing of the rail end caps. I had to notch them to slide over the hyfax. I will have to take a pic a show you.

I ended up cutting my rails off to the rear of the square you have the bolt that holds the hyfax and re drilling new holes about 2" back and re mounting the hyfax. Using the cross shaft with the limiter straps and mounting a anti stabb kit and rounding off the rail and hyfax not a good pic but the rail is cut off just on the other side of the anti stab rail.

trenching

My son's stock mc800 144 was trenching like a mother but after taking some advice off this site it is a brand new machine(I only went with a 151 but moving the skid back should have the same effect), here's the advice. Moved the skid back to the next factory mounting hole dropped it down to the next hole made 2 inch drop brackets for the rear put 9" 2 wheel kit in to take up the rest of the track length. This reduced the attack angle by at least 5 degrees and raised the rear of the sled to clear more snow. Hope there is something you can use out of this
