MTBE Gas

So I was just told that the mountains in Colorado get the same gas as in Denver as there is only one refinery here. Does anyone know if that is true? and should I add a little oil to my tank each time I fill it up?

The %10 ethanol fuel doesn't really effect your oil/gas mixture, but it does effect the octane rating of the fuel as I understand it.

Even though they are selling %10 ethanol fuel as 87, 89 and 91 octane (I think?) I don't know if you can "truly" consider it 91 octane fuel.

RMX recomends mixing %10 race gas with oxygenated fuel to avoid any complications with their packages I know, but if you have the stock head on your sled then regular "91 octane" oxygenated fuel will most likley be fine.

Anyone who knows more about this than I do please feel free to correct me :)

Thanks Dogmeat. We are trying to decide if we should continue to pay the premium mountain price for gasoline, or is the Denver gas just fine. We can get racing fuel around the corner of our house. . . hmmm. Might have to call a dealer to find out.

Donovan?

Yes, that is true. Plant is in Commerce City.

Sometimes the western slope folks get it from Utah..........

It shouldent be a problem. Fuel Injected sleds will adjust. Carbed Sleds need to be a little fatter on the jetting, but should be anyway.

I always premix a little at the begaining of the season untill I'm sure everything is working. After that, ride it like you stole it.

Yep, we used to all get MTBE fuel in the winter and lose 10% of our MPG because of the Denver/Front Range compliance area. I think the current situation is that we all get oxygenated (e.g. ethanol "enhanced") fuel by federal mandate.
The fuel/injected oil mixture is probably OK in stock machines, but some fuel injected machines have different maps for oxygenated/non-oxygenated fuel.
I think the new Polarises have a switch or a wire to plug in or unplug according to fuel being used.
