Mount Washington
15 members of Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue are hiking into the backcountry in Strathcona Park, to rescue four skiers who were caught in an avalanche, Tuesday afternoon.
"All four were in the avalanche, one sustained injury, so we're just heading up the mountain to begin our search for them, then a medical evacuation," explained Paul Berry, President of CVGSAR.
The avalanche happened outside of the Mount Washington resort boundaries, near Strata Mountain.
Backcountry skiers, but this is one of the areas we ride. Likely be lots of slab slides over the next few days. Over 15' untill a week and a half or so ago, then nothing to speak of since so a pretty good crust formed. The last few days its been dumping hard,(over 3') with nothing to stick and hold. Heading out tomorrow but will be sticking to the areas we know wont slide. (most likely wont)
