Mt. Bike Whistler Blackcomb

Have a few days off work and was thinking of heading to Whistler for some downhill riding. Just the lower park (Fitzsimmons Express) is open. Is it worth the 7 hour drive for 3 days of riding, will be coming from Yakima (Central Wash.)? Any other options around the NW that is open weekdays? Most of the ski resorts are only open weekends or aren't open until later this month.

Any suggestions would be appreciated and would like to keep it under a 10 hour drive.

If you are going to go anywhere in B.C. I would recomend Whistler or Sun Peaks (kamloops). Been to both, both rock! Whistler is a bit expensive if you want to do anything in and or around the place. Far more riding at Whistler thou! My 2 pennies:D

it doesnt really matter that only the lower chair is open... it is far better. Top chair hasnt been in action as long (in the bike park) and has less trails, and they are not in as good condition.. lower is better b/c of more trails & better condition because the snow is gone sooner... I never even touch to upper chair usually, even when it's open.... unless there is a massive line for the fitz.. IMO.. go for it.

X 2 Have a good trip if you go!:beer;

Any recommendations on lodging? Depending on the weather, was considering bringing the tent and staying at a campground, if there is one nearby. Or should I just bite the bullet and pay the 100/night and stay at the village.

Definitely worth the trip if you're going for a few day with that long of a drive. I don't know of any closer areas that have the lifts going for mt bikes. Lots of shuttle and downhill action east of seattle. We have 3 good spots right in North bend...as extreme as it gets....:eek::beer;:D

personally the upper lift is my favorite because its a little more old school. Sketchy woodwork, steep and rocky trails, really more fun for me then a bunch of little jumps. Although i do love clown shoes on the lower lft...

Cmantle1 you are right. it does have very nice, steep, techy, stuff up top... but if thats what you want.. why would you pay? go ride the north shore in North Van which ihas WAYYYYmore techy trails, on 3 mountains.. and much better, bigger hits.. also the shore is FREE. but with regards to camp grounds... there is a camp ground just 5 mins south of whistler on the Right side of the highway if your travelling north bound... its just about 500 meters passed the Brandywine Snowmobile access point. cheap to stay there.. think its like 10$ per night. Have an awesome trip! check weather though... was snowing from mid mountain and up yesterday.... weird June weather..

yea totally, i ride the shore quite a bit when no feeling like making the haul up to whistler. The scene at whistler is sweet though, always guys throwing down and wat not....man i hope i get up there again this year for crankworks!
