Moving to Cortez-Dolores area

Whats up Colorado? My wife and I are moving back to Colorado, we have been in Alaska for over 5 years now, we both have had enough of the long dark winters. I got a job in Dolores, we went and flew into Denver last week, hung out with old friends in summit county and then made our way to Cortez to scope out the area. I previously lived in summit county for about 5 years, but during that time I had never made my way down to the southwest corner, I just have to say I was missing out, between wolf creek pass and telluride there are some really amazing places down there. The drive to Telluride from dolores was actually shorter than the drive we have to make to go riding in Alaska. Now my question is where around Telluride, or wolf creek is legal to ride, I saw a lot of forest service, and jeep roads around the area. I did a search but did not find much on the southwest area. Just by visiting the area I think we found our most ideal place to live, not much traffic, cheaper housing, mild winters, lots of things to do. I will also say that we are big into jeeping, mountain biking, and dirtbiking also, as I look forward to checking out Moab and all the other cool places in the area. If anybody has any suggestions on where to ride it would be very helpful.

go to colorado sled city.com that will show the "offical" trails.

I'm with you I love the southwest.

You should be able to find some afordable housing near dolores / cortez.

just dont wonder onto the ute reservation (at least southern ute) at the first of the month ! Probably one of the most dangerous places in the state ! I had a friend who down there down there !

you just moved to some of then best riding in the west. check out the local club in durango the san jaun sledders.

Thanks that is good to know, have you rode in these areas much? I am just curious if there is good riding near Telluride, being that is closest to where I will be. Looking at Sledcity.com it looks like there is a lot around Durango and the wolf creek area. I did not see anything around Telluride on Sled city.com. I did see snowmoblie tours on Telluride websites though, any way I am looking forward to checking it all out.
