Moving Northeast to Southwest- Many Questions

Hey Guys,
Always admired you guys out west and the deep powder riding. It looks like I am moving down to Dallas, Texas and I WILL be riding out west. I have never been steep and deep and I have a bunch of straight forward questions.
First, Is there riding in New Mexico? I know southern Colorado is good but how far South is there good riding.
Second, once I pull the trigger on a sled. Who would you call to learn the ropes of riding out west. I am not messing around in the back country until I have a some basic skills, avalanche safety, and experience. Three kids need me around.
Thanks
Wanna be Marc

The best riding in NM is Chama which is mostly right on the CO border it's a huge area with every type of riding. It's about 30 miles from wolf creek pass as the crow flies. WC is where Burandt guides its worth the extra few miles IMO. The snow is better . Chama is good but WC is that much better. That's where I ride !
