moving from utah to ft collins co

I will be moving to ft collins in a few months and wanted to get a feel for how close riding will be from there. Also, any suggestions on where to live there would be great. Really looking forward to the change. My lady will be going to csu to get a 2nd bachelors which is why we are moving. Any help would be great.

Hey, Fort Collins a really fun town. I graduated from CSU a few years back and live in Pleasant Grove now. Unfortunately, living in the Wasatch front range isn't the same as the Colorado front range. The nearest riding spots are 1.5 to 2 hour drive or more. The snowy range, vail area, jones pass, cameron pass, rabbit ears just to name a few. All have their pros and cons and can usually escape the masses if you know where to venture off the trail. Lots of party houses close to campus, so if you're looking for a quiet neighborhood might want to head east of campus and shy away from the apartments near campus. Let me know if you have any questions. Great town and love going back to visit.

Lots of great riding...as listed above.

Just will take you a few hours to get to the goods.

But heading up highway 14 west out of Fort Collins will take you up to Cameron Pass....high alpine bowls...good for late season riding...under 1.5 hours. Another 45minutes or so down 14 is Walden/Buffalo Pass. Kinda of the East side of the Rabbit Ears. Great snow and conditions. Another 40 minutes down the road is Rabbit Ears...popular destination great world class sledding. Lots of great peeps to meet and ride with at the Muddy Creek Lot.

ANother route would be north less than 2 hours and put you at the Snowies just over the border in Wyoming. Could explore that area for years...but weather can move in fast and cause compete white outs....ducking in the trees will be rewarded.

You say tomatoe I say tomato....same dif....

Except we were all saying tomato long before....until it got all political and someone came along and said everybody had to say tomatoe now. ;)

I live in Fort Collins now. I live on the West end of town, I like it. It is a good compromise. The bad part about the West end of town is it takes you longer to get out of town(I-25 is east). It takes me about 10 minutes to get to CSU, I live off of Drake and Overland). There is a lot of recreation in Fort Collins, lots of parks, lots of trails, etc. There are several breweries here, it is fun to check them all out.

Are you working IN Fort Collins?, edit do you have a job yet? On where to live, it depends on what you want. House, townhome?

Old town is great, but it sounds like you and your lady are past the typical College attending ages, so the locality to nightlife probably won't matter as much. I am not a fan of North Fort Collins, it seems a little trashier.

thanks for all the responses! i dont live there yet, looking to move there in 2 to 3 months. no job yet but havnt started looking real hard yet since i wont be there for a couple months. we are 26 and both alrady did the college "thing" at washington state univ and she wants to go back and get another degree and i wouldnt mind re living some of the college glory! haha. we want to be close to campus but we are a little older than most college kids i guess and we do have a dog so we want a place close but still have a little quiet time. We need a place that is pet friendly and hopefully has a small lick back area for the pup to go outside. doesnt have to be a "yard" really, just a little area he can be outside and not have to be watched.
