Movie Theater or Home HDTV/DVD?

I don't go to many movies at the big screen. I happend to go yesterday and all I could think of during the movie is if I would have waited for this to come out on DVD or Blu-Ray I would have a much sharper, clearer and more detailed image then what I was seeing in the theater. Sure it has the 16/9 ratio that all widesceen HDTV's have but seriously, other then the football field size of the screen it wasn't very impressive. So I asked myself, why the hell would people go to the theater when they can get better at home?

Did you meen "we" here on snowest or Hollywood?

Maybe the movies have always been that way but since I have had HD signals for TV shows and so on the movie screen looks like a old rabit ears broadcast.

I haven't been to a movie in a theater in more than 5 years. BUT - that will change soon as the first "all digital" theater just opened about 4 miles from the house - supposed to be 4x better than the HD on your set. We'll see about that.....

My boy is hounding me to take him to see Horton :)

the digital theaters are amazing! HOWEVER, it doesnt even come close to blu ray IMO. With a rockin home theater audio system and blu ray on my full HD tv, it brought my movie viewing experience to a whole new level!
