Mountain sled

Looking to get some less biased opinions on what is or who makes the best mountain sled. I am looking at the M8 153" and a Summit MXZX 800r in either a 154 or 146. I ride a 06 renegade MXZX with a 16 inch wide 1.75 track on it now. I am 5'7" and weigh in at about 160 lbs. Looking to get the best sled for my size and weight. Looking for a good all around sled for Mountain riding. I have never been out west before but have been around here in Minnesota and Wisconsin and to the U.P. and love the logging trail roads. I am also going to keep the renegade for around here and use it as an extra sled out there. Just looking to get some opinions besides the Ski Doo guys on Dootalk.

Thanks in advance!

mountain sled

it depends on what you are looking to do with it. i have an 07 apex and i love it. it climbs good for me, it is great on the trail but i am 240 pounds. i had an 01 sxr i stretched out and it was easier to handle but needed more track. with pipes it had plenty of power. i rode with the dealer from Alexandria for a couple days in west Yellowstone, he had the new 600 e-tech. i was very impressed. he tossed it around very nicely. it climbed almost as high as a rev 800 high mark. the mountain maxes with some pipe and minor motor work and a longer track rip, and if they are anything like the sxr i stretched out, they should handle pretty good. every one will tell you their brand is best. but that is an opinion, and everyone has one. i know there are better sleds out there than what i have, i like yamaha for several reasons, one is my local dealer, that makes a huge difference. good luck in your decision.

Of those two sleds I'd lean toward the m 8 , it all depends what your going to realy enjoy doing in the mountains.
How much money on average you like to spend per ride.
In my opinion a m8 ,dragon 700 or a rmk 600 h/o 155 will cost the least to run per season.
I,ve had ski doos and polaris's and ride with all brands in the mountains for the last 10 years.
This last season I bought a 09 xp and still run my 08 dragon.
They both have there good and bad points.
For me the dragon is better in most situations in the mountains.

well.....of the sleds you mentioned, only the M8 is a mountain sled so unless you look at a Summit the choice is easy.

mountain sled choice

i would go with the e-tec 154,i know it's only a 600 but at your size & weight i think you'll love it.this is from a yamaha guy .
p.s. plus great mileage to!!!!

im a poo guy i love the iq chasis its easy to throw around and it handles great i would go with a dragon 800 simply because thats what i ride and i am satisfied with it.

2010

I have a m-8,2007 but i'm looking to go for the xp(power/weight ratio)both are good but why lug the extra wt. The 154" is good for deep powder but at 160lbs you could go with the 146".i was hoping for an e-tec 800 but doo isn't going to release it(at least not at the begining of the season.

go with the M8, at your size it is a more flickable sled, and the new powerplant is supposed to rip!

choices

I dont know what chasy the o6 is that you have now but I would say (especialy if you are going to keep it) if it is a rev platform go for the xp. if it is the older chasy go for the cat. both of these sleds are great. I ride yamaha but if my choice was limited to these two sleds I would get the cat. the xp is just not comfortable to me. good luck julio

Personally I have rode most of the newer sleds for a good amount of time. You cant go wrong with any of the new mountain sleds, they all rip! If you like to boondock in the tight trees and then climb and jump the m8, D8, and the doo800s are hard to beat. The new technology makes all of them so user friendly, you cant go wrong now days. Never been around yamahas much so dont no much about them. You dont see many yamahas in snocross or pro hillclimb races. But last year the first four stroke sled won a national pro open snocross race. Thats big!

Just rode the 2010 Yam last week and was very impressed. I've been a doo guy in the past, but wow, my eyes were opened...
Blows my mind that I'm so pumped on Yams after trying it... I would have never though...
