Mountain Mod Mania filming the Utah Impulse Turbo Boys chute slaying!

Had a great weekend filming Paul Horschel, Travis Hiatt and Robert Call slaying some serious chutes on their Impulse Turbo'd Yamaha's.

Mountain Mod Mania 9 coming your way this summer!

Doc,
I like the pic of the Terminal Cancer run in Lamoille Canyon, looks a wee bit narrow near the top, had to be Scarrrrryyyy!!. Great shots, love your videos.

Those pics of Terminal on the other thread are awesome, but the one in this thread is a new chute that's never been attempted until that day. We're calling it Paul's Crack because it is so tight and small :face-icon-small-sho

The chute was unbelievably narrow and he had to weave between the rocks at full throttle to make it. It's one he's been wanting for a few years, but has never been do-able until last weekend. We got 3 feet of sticky snow during that week that almost covered the rocks that have never been covered in all the years we've been riding up the canyon.

Once again, I was awed by Paul's riding ability and how well his freaking sled ran. Travis and Rob made it up Psycho that day too, so it was a monumental day! Except the delaminating/stabbed track on my sled that was damaged on the Chemo (terminal cancer) climb.

Thanks again to Doc for posting these pics up!

Might be the wrong thread/forum ... but ...

Just outta curiosity, what would one of those Yamahas you all are riding cost to build?

Not quite a million dollars, but it does depend if you build it yourself or if you have someone else build it. And, if you don't have to have a new one, then finding one used can be cheaper.

Parts:
-Standalone Impuse race kit about $9,000 (plus or minus depending on guages etc...)
-Clutching about $500 (weights and shockwave secondary)
-Track $1,130 delivered to Utah (just bought one from tracks usa today)
-CR tunnel about $2,100 with drop-brackets (about $5k for a carbon-fiber one)
-M-10 rear skid about $3,000 with rails (can be more with bling)
-Engine work...not necessary, but that can literally be $10k (I don't have any)
-Powdercoating about $400
-Seat about $500
-Drivers $300

That's about $17k plus a sled, and that's a "basic" build without any extra bling or engine work. Then you have to assemble the parts which will take many more hours of your time (or many dollars of someone else's)

If you're doing a nypex build, then that's many more hours...

Based on the above, I would guess that Paul's about $35-$40 of hard costs into the "agent orange" sled in the pictures (engine work, carbon-titanium tunnel etc...) but it's one heck of an awesome sled.

So, if you can find one that's for sale with all the stuff I've listed above for anything less that $20k, then that would be a great deal. If it's newly built and/or with some extras (carbon-fiber tunnel, front suspension, engine work, etc...) then $25-30k is still less than it would cost to build it yourself and you didn't have to do all the work.

By the time you do all the carbon fiber weight loss, what would you estimate a Nytro weighs? Comparable to a stock 2-stroke?

Well, most of what we do isn't for weight loss, but to make them reliably climb the stuff we want. However, I think that the Carbon-titanium tunnel Nypex should weigh in about 600 lbs with 10 gallons of fuel and the Nytro should be a bit less.

If anyone else has more information on the actual weights I hope they can chime in.

Main reason I'm asking is because I think that in another couple years there won't be any 2-strokes sold, and everyone will be running 4-stroke sleds ...

In which case, Yamaha has a very obvious since they'lve been building them for awhile now :)

I'm just sort of planning what kind of a mortgage I'm going to have to take out to build my next sled honestly ...

Wonder how well a lightened up Nytro boondocks in spring snow?

Well, I do think that without boost, the 4 stroke ain't much fun to ride, but with boost, it's surprisingly nimble. You might have to make the drive from Vernal to test one out. With this year's snow, we'll probably be riding until middle of July!

looking forward to seeing mtn mod 9. as far as the sleds go those are some of the best built on the snow. 600 lb sled 300 + hp 80 mph track speed priceless.

I have a couple of turbo sleds. My TAPEX is not nearly as much fun in spring conditions as a 2 stroke. You just don't need that much power in spring snow unless you are slaying chutes like these "maniacs". When it is deep and steep though, the TAPEX is killer.
