Mototrax..... ride reports

Yep. They look good and they've been talking a great game but nobody's really been one yet.

Maybe it's the best thing ever but All the talk is getting old.

By the way.... Are any of these kits really game changers anymore? I feel like Timbersled improved on the 2moto and then everyone is refining the Timbersled model and acting like they reinvented the wheel.

Guaranteed every single brand out there right now performs very well.

It's true all of the kits out there preform very well. However, the design of our kit is very different then the TS. We build our skid from the ground up using rising rate suspension, there isn't any other over snow vehicle out there that is using rising rate suspension in there skids.

We have over 100 2017 kits out there, and snow falling everywhere it won't be long before you start seeing pictures and reports. Keep an eye on our Facebook page too!

Really like lots of things about the Mototrax and their support products. Only thing I'm skeptical about, is the 2 inch track. So somebody get there and ride!

Guess I'm first.

Ride one Kit shook apart due to a lack of locktite during the manufacturing process. Towed out on a sleigh. Kit was fun on the two mile road ride before suspension and tunnel bolts backed out. Randy and team were responding to emails before I finished the hour drive back. so kudos to support.

Ride two
Much better, Rising rate rear suspension is pretty good somewhere between a Yeti and a Yeti with TSS. Didn't get to jump it but the rotating skid and shorter length makes the bike much more "flickable"

A 2.5" track would be very helpful as would a better front ski which performs ok on the trail but lacks the float of a yeti ski off trail.

Overall pretty good value for the $$$ but follow the bulletins and upgrade the ski.

I'm not sure how much help I can be. I have had about 5-10 minutes on a Timbersled. My kit is a 2016 xc scout 120 with the fox reservoir shock and narrow 8"? ski on a 2011 crf450r. I had to fab a fit kit myself as I've been waiting over a month for the factory upgrade kit which as it turns out put my suspension 4" too tall @ pegs. (I know they are catching up on the 2017 orders and are trying to make the 2016 guys whole on the lessons learned from these kits. So, I'll wait for factory kit before I ride again.)

I think this is commonly known... the 2016 8" ski lacks float. Extremely noticeable in ditch crossings.

This kit has varied personalities.

light and nimble in good 1 1/2 to 2 1/2"' of powder.

Tree wells... no problem. Pop right out the other side unless a branch grabs you.

Climbs much better than expected. On one occasion I had powder coming over the front fender as I was pointing straight up the hill in 2nd. I pulled out of it into a sidehill no problem. looped around again pointed straight up a few feet over, bogged some but kept climbing in third right over the top

Tippy when parked. Due to my too tall homade fit kit I couldn't come close to touching my feet and It lacks the rigid self balancing of the Timbersled. Therefore 50% of stops ended up with a slow sideways flop. Parking on a slope definitely helped this situation.

I didn't ride on groomed but on the trail it tracks well when following a single rut from a sled. You could follow the rut and pop out of it in to the fresh with no effort.
On the way back it was pretty twitchy on mashed down trail. This was due to the track twisting slightly each time it encountered a new groove. It wasn't scary but it required constant input from the front ski to stabilize the twitch in the track. I was tired from the ride already and knowing I couldn't effectively stomp my foot due to the height, this requirement for extra input did slow me down on the way back.
I expect my experiences to just improve when I receive the proper fit kit and parts. I'll post back when I do. I may get the newer ski sooner rather than later.

129 Moto Trax

I only have two 8-10 mile rides in 3 feet of dry bottomless powder and did not have any other snowbikes around to compare with. I have had 2 Timbersleds since 2011 and this Moto Trax rides more like a dirtbike for sure suspension is very nice front forks do not feel like they need bigger springs at all ski seems to work fine so far. I will have it out with some other snowbikes this weekend and I will give a better ride report after. But so far I am liking the Moto Trax 129

UPDATE

UPDATE... Mototrax said I should have my upgrade kit around the 14th.
In the meantime I shortened the linkage I made. this put my pegs @ 4 5/16" inches lower than before. now I can touch with my toes bent on both sides. On the shop floor I can now push on it sideways and it returns to a balanced spot. before it would have tipped over. I can't wait to ride it Sunday.
