Moscow area?

Hi all,
Im going to school in Moscow right now and this is the first winter that I have had my sled up here. I was wondering where are some good places to ride within an hour or two of here? Does anyone know or have the time to show me around once or twice?

I ride a 09 polaris and mostly like to boondock and find some good powder.

Elk River is probably the closest good riding. I have a buddy in Moscow, if you don't mind riding with a dork on a Ski-Doo I can try to get you in touch with him.

Every time I drive through that area I think what a kick it would be to go blasting through the pow in some of the steeper wheat fields. Wide open areas with nothing to hit, and places to side hill for days!

Sure, fun... for about 20 minutes then you'd be bored.

Here is a video of the Freezeout area. It is about the same drive from Moscow as Elk river and there is more snow, but less rideable terrain. At the bottom of this page there is a google map of where the video was taken so you can see how to get there from Moscow.

When there's enough snow I ride up on Moscow mountain, I'm not sure if it's technically legal but no problems so far. There's actually a couple decent play areas if you know where you're going. Other than that like the others said, Elk River or Freezeout. It's pretty rare that we get enough snow to ride the fields.

When you go to Elk River is there just alot of trails? Is it easy to find some play areas or do you have to know where you are going to find some?

It's pretty easy to find good off trail riding, just head for the high ground.

I live in moscow and work at the yamaha shop. I ride on mondays mostly if you want to go sometime. i was at elk river last weekend and i dont know if i will go up there again unless we get some more snow.

Hey man i'm also going to school up here at u of i. If we start getting some snow I am going bring my rev up from New Meadows and do some riding around Elk River. I don't know the area but i'm always willing to do some exploring. So if your down i'm always game to ride with some new people!
