Mont Blanc Avy Kills 8 Climbers

"The avalanche was the deadliest to hit climbers in the Alps this year.

The BBC's Hugh Schofield in Paris says it has been a lethal summer, with about 100 climbers killed since 1 June in France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland. About 20 of them have died on Mont Blanc."

I've skied the Agui-du-Midi, and portions of Mt. Blanc - the threat there is serious. Chamonix has larger-than-life terrain, but all but the tourist routes are pretty hairy. Ave stuff above, and crevasses under wind-bridges below. If you tour in that area, it's best to hire an experienced guide for the week, be prepared, equiped and stay alive.
