modifying a 600 rmk

Hey everyone! I put a SLP pipe n silencer on my 07 600 RMK. I am trying to find as many ways to get more horsepower out of it that I can. Would it be worth the effort to change the gearing to get more torque for climbing, being as I also ride in the midwest? Also would I gain any horsepower by changing the gearing and could I ride in the Midwest with lower gearing?

chances are your stock gearing is the best it will get without modifications.

you will not gain horsepower

you will either loose trackspeed and gain torque or gain trrackspeed and loose torque

depends what you want to do..

there are some test you need to do before deciding if you sled needs a gearing change.

other than that..

pipe/reeds/nitrous/lightweight parts

best way to go.

Mil the heads.
Advance the timing curve.
Change the port timing.
Bore the carbs a little bit.

The one I rode would pull a 900rmk out of the hole.

Modifying a 600 RMK

Thanks for the responses guys! The reason I'm trying to get more horse power is because my buddy has a 07 700 dragon and he's killing me in the horsepower department, but believe it or not we are about even on highmarking! I think I will check out reeds , and vent kits. Anything I can do to keep me in the competition with the bad boy 700!!

It was an 07 600. 155 (?).
It RIPPED.
They said it was about 145 hp.

It was a dealer sled in Missoula, MT.
Kurts Polaris.

SLP pipe and can, you now need the air box kit, and a MTX clutch kit and that will really wake it up! Mine will easily will pull my brothers 800 out of the hole, on the hill, drag race.....flat out rips. Get the jetting right helps with the pipe and can. What is your elevation?

I'm thinking we can help you beat him......he'll be pissed but oh well. Every ride my brother wants more HP...get the set up right and your buddies 700 will be history. Kind of a sleeper.

i have to agree these guys know what they are talking about they helped me with my 07 600 rmk and it runs with 700s and 800s all day and doesn't use as much fuel.......

That sounds awesome! I dont' have alot of experience wrenching on sleds except piping it, changing jetting, and putting mountain weights in the primary clutch. Will I need to take it to a Polaris shot to have the MTX clutch kit installed ? I can probably do the airbox kit myself , but clutches r way more technical.

Buy the SLP air box kit (guts the air box and adds the air horn for the hood like the 08's). The air box kit recommends what spring/weights to use. I have a blue/pink spring with the MTX weights, aluminum pin in outer hole. Running 310 jets at 7-8K. All easy to install, sounds like it would be a do it yourself. Got a clutch puller, helps but not absolutely necessary. If you want part numbers let me know I will get my paperwork out. Kent

Yep, put a Carly's cycle shop 660 big bore kit on it and you won't beat him, you will embarass him! That kit flat rips.

!

Simple solution:

Carl's Cycle 860.

The more economic solution:

Carl's Cycle 660.

The fun factor solution:

turbo.

I Agree with the above! (except the turbo part) I have a Carls 685 in my 600, and a 660 in my buddies sled, best engine mods we've ever done. They have been as reliable as stock, but really leaves everyone scratching their heads, including my brother with his RKT827.

For a well tuned stocker I would recommend the following

19/42 gears
Carl's Clutch kit (helix, weights, springs)
VF3's
SLP airbox
4-5 flowrites in the dash
timing 28* @ 3,500 RPM TPS unplugged

A buddy has this set up and it runs very fast and has been ultra reliable, all of these setups have been true gas and go machines which have really elevated the fun factor.

how much HP is the 660 bb kit putting out compared to stock?

I don't know, carl's does not advertise a HP # for any of their kits. I was very concerned about this lack of HP numbers and it was one of the main reasons it took me so long to do the 685. In hindsight I was dumb. I now could care less about the advertised HP number, tell me how it runs. The # doesn't matter as the smile on my face is huge everytime I ride my "little 600."

The gain is considerable, my 685 against my wifes bone stock 600 is not even a race, I get out 4 sleds off the line and the distance just keeps getting larger. I would estimate about 10 sled in a 600' race.

I've got a lil 6 too. 07 600 155. It rips. I love it. :D

My setup:

SLP Pipe/Can
3 flowrites in dash
Air Horn intake
18/43 gearing
10-54 weights (stock) and blue/pink spring in primary
225lb front track spring
Float 2 front shocks
Swaybar removed
5 1/2 inch riser

Holds 8300 RPM in deep pow climbs all day long. We ride at 10-11K

Most bang for the buck IMO:

Intake - 3 flowrites and Air Horn kit - Madatory

Gearing - 18-43 is awesome for mountains. You can keep your stock chain. You won't win any races across the lakes, but in the deep pow you'll be all smiles!

5 1/2 inch riser - Huge difference in handling. Mandatory

Hey thanks for the replies , I had no idea you could do so much modification to a sled! funny part is my lil 600 with only a slp pipe n can on it still keeps up with my buddies 700 dragon. After I get done modifying it even more he won't stand a chance!!!!!

And besides, it's just money $$$$$$. Forgot, the post above this recommends flow-rites in the dash which is also a must have! This engine will want LOTS of air with these mods. Kent
