Mod to replace bolts at top cover plate

Not sure if anyone has done this yet…

Mod is to remove the screws used to hold the cover plate in place that is located just behind the steering post (between steering post and gauges).

Used a 10 mm bolt cut to length to just protrude above the cover plate and drilled a 1/8" hole in the bolt (now a stud as I cut the head of the bolt).

Stud was thread locked with blue #2 thread locker to hold in place.

Key ring clips were used to hold the cover plate in place - plastic washers were placed under the clips (optional). Works slick and reduces time to remove the cover plate.

There's a couple that have been done and a couple kits out there, but I'm still doing almost identical to what you've done (only difference is I'm using pins for the holes with cables attached to not lose the pins. Due to needing more height for the gauge/goggle bag on mine, the kits you can buy won't work.
I'm trying to find a clip that will latch it down to keep it tighter instead, but using that for now.
Nice job!

Good idea on the pins with cables - will swap out my rings.

Can't use wing nuts (also a good idea) as my studs are not threaded to the top - can change the studs though...
