Mod Sled Rentals???

I have this bad habit of building mod sleds and getting to attached to them.
Right now I have 2 Arctic Cat M1000's with Twisted Turbo's and a Apex with a MCX 310 rearmount turbo and have just started building another from scratch Twisted Turbo M1000.

I do advertise these sleds for sale but everytime I have someone come and look at one they usually make a offer way lower than what I am asking.
I build these Cats from scratch,new crate motor,Diamond Drive Lite,CE 3" tracks,Raptor shocks,Kmod skid,RG Twisted Turbo,Boost It.....the list of aftermarket parts is large.

I am considering starting up a mod sled rental/guiding business and maybe cabin rentals on my property that is between Revelstoke and Sicamous.

So do you think that I am crazy for even considering renting out turbo sleds?
Is this a sure way of throwing my money and sleds into the trash?
Any input would be appreciated....

I think it would be an alright idea, but you would have to make sure to protect your investment. Can't have the "ride it like a rental" type. Some places make you put a substantial daily deposit for stock sleds. I've had to cover friends that have wrecked and had to rent, but needed a credit card that could have full purchase price of sled hold put on it(pending charge, but not charged unless something happens). I think I would start some on small pump gas turbos. 300 horse might be a little much for a first "turbo ride".:face-icon-small-ton

I am thinkiing that I would have to guide any renters, one to keep an eye on the sleds and to make sure they are running properly.

I could also take riders to the good stuff, off the tourist trap areas.
For someone that wants to fly north to Canada or from eastern Canada and get taken out to the good riding on a capable turbo machine.

So what would be a reasonable charge for renting a turbo sled with a guide?

I think the rental guy in Revy has low boost Nytro he rents. I think he charges $500/day. Does he rent it often? Doubt it?

I have a modsled you can buy for your fleet. Just don't lowball me. lol

I really like that ol sled of yours, over the last couple of years I have read your whole thread a few times....If I had that sled I wouldn't give it away either, own it for life!

that is the problem with building mod sleds, you dont get even close to what you have into them. honestly i dont think it is a good idea. many people that rent dont even have the ability to ride a stock sled. i would either keep them or just sell them and take the hit.

For the amount of money that you mod guys have stuck in them sleds i cant imagine letting someone u dont know and have ever met take it for a day of riding. 500 dollars dont seem like enough money to make it worth the headache.

I will always build mod sleds!
I have too and cannot stop.
You would be surprised how much it actually costs to build a mod sled when you do them 3 at a time and build from scratch.
If you shop around a bit and use the vendors from the forum you could build a sled with a turbo and all the best aftermarket parts for way less than a new stocker.
With me it is not really a matter of selling, its about parting with my stuff...I hate it.
I could sell any of these and make a profit.....but to be able to rent them and to take people out and guide them in my playgrounds and maybe build one for the people that never had a chance to ride a boosted sled before renting one of mine.

i say give it a try what would you be out? take insurance out on the sleds as a stock sled rental business and if they wreck the sled most common issues are going to be tunnel bulk head and plastics all stock stuff pretty much anyways.

there are lots of people that would rent a sled for some decent money but not to much to see if a turbo sled is for them or just to cross it off there bucket list

I would think it wise to get insurance ... even a blanket policy plus an policy for a sled.

I would think to have riders demonstrate their skill level on older/wrecked or lower power sleds and then move up from there.

For instance a lightweight sled with an engine mod on a climb or some technical course.

Even stick flags on a course to make sure they can ride to or around it, get stuck and see how they get out ... and how they behave/attitude getting stuck. Don't want the wrong personalty on a 300HP sled.

As the rider "passes" the competency level(s) then he or she moves to the more powerful/manueverable sleds.

Being where I am and how little or much riding experience one has under their belt usually has the group start simple and then go technical and watch how the new member riders perform.

I'd rent one...

I'd love to check out those Cats. I rode your Apex in March!

Mark me down as an interested party. I would love to ride up there but it's too far to tow the sleds from where I'm at, and if I'm gonna make a vacation out of it I don't want to ride some busted up renta-wreck.

If I were in your position I would be concerned with liability. Playing Devil's advocate...imagine if a guy kills himself and his family sues because you enabled him with something he had no business being on. There are no snowmobile licenses to show that you are "qualified". I would hope this is never the case but you never know until it happens.

Ditto lots of stories around here.

i think you should have your own reality tv show modding the sleds..you know;
like Pimp My Ride,Jesse James, Orange County Choppers.

I would pay to watch video of a noob on a rental turbo..... as long as it wasn't YOUR rental turbo.. lol

whats that guy that does crazy stuff in a show..Jackazz or something like that,he would be interesting on a turbo in Daves reality show...hahaha..
