MN man buried over New Years

Anyone remember the guy from MN who got buried out in CO this year over New Years? Prime slide situation and he was marking with a bud when he triggered it. Dude had the only shovel in the group and luckily some SW memebers saw the slide and got over to save his ace.

The local MN tv stations covered it for a week or so, and I know we had soem long and heated talks over it.

Well the local magazine had him do a write up on what it's like to be buried.

Nothing against the guy, but in all the stuff I've seen on this, he has yet to say "opps shouldn't a been doing that, or been so unprepared". Also the article just says his friends dug him out.

Like I say nothing against him, but if I was dug out by strangers, I'd be dropping their name every chance I had.

Here's a link to the article.

There was no mention of anything that he would have done differently, or if he does now. That's all I'd be able to talk about if I was him.

i seen him on the news and thought the same thing!!thank god for him his wife wont let him ride out west anymore...

Surprised he has a wife with the "it's all about me" attitude he has. It's weird how some people can not for the life of them say thanks or I owe it all to so and so. Why is that so hard for people to do?

Comming that close to death you would think he would have a different attitude than what it appears. I think most of us would have had different story line than his.

geez

My wife and I are the ones who dug his azz out on new years eve. These guys were riding in a slope that had already slid just to the left of where they were climbing, and the night before we had sustained 70 mph winds. Gravel mtn. (chicken hill) was completed wind loaded... They had one shovel without the handle with them. Pretty funny that they would get these guys a forum to speak on their experience when they had absolutely no gear or training that would have help aviod the situation or help us extract their buddy. Everyone needs to take a class and be prepared! No excuses, No beacon = no riding out west!

That guy was lucky you and your wife were close by! I know you only dug him out to save his life but would'nt you think he would show a little graditude..

same ol steez

same attitude that comes off in the article is the same attitude that got him into trouble that day. nuff said.

Even without training, wouldn't plain old common sense tell these idiot sticks that they're playing with fire when they see that?

I hope I don't offend anyone here with this comment, but natural selection comes to mind.

Props to you bdubs for saving his dumb ***. I hope you beat him over the head with the handleless shovel when he was out.

...

:beer;thanks, but no, I was to tired from digging ;) not looking for credit here, just a little reality and awareness! bottom line is everyone should be prepared so that when it is you bacon that is buried there is plenty of able rescuers to respond.

I think I may have to right the magazine a letter and express my concern over a lack of safety lesson thrown in, etc. What do you guys think?

Wow, I can't believe how dumb people can be. No beacon and only one shovel in the mountains? My group goes more prepared on a trail ride. I really hate that these people are on the same mountains as the rest of us  I really got the idea that he though he was a tough guy, and how it wasn't avoidable and just "happened" and that being more prepared wouldn't of helped him.
