Well how was opener for everyone?

I have never seen as much sign as I did this weekend. Hell I walked past 3 new scrapes on Sunday morning on the way to the stand. Rut was on.....

Yet I saw 1 deer all weekend. Was the north wind keeping the deer holed up? Even hunted in the spruce swamp walking around and didn't push anything out of hiding Saturday. Same story in a blow down area.

Did I have chitty luck or was everyone having a tough hunt?

we shot a few but didn't really see much. we have 6 bucks haning and all of their necks were real swollen, rut is definately on. i have to believe the wind had something to do with nothing moving. hopefully next weekend is more calm.

no luck in northhome but alot of sign. wind had them beded down. goin up wed and see what happens

our group got a 8 point and 2 does. I saw two fuzzies and that was it, the deer were definatly not moving. Man that north wind was cold too!! Oh well, got 3 weeks to find me a buck:D

a lot of damn wolves around too. one group close to us seen 4 this weekend. they haven't been seeing hardly any deer.

you ain't kidding. The wind was blowing right over the lake!! I don't remember ever being as cold as I was Sunday in the deer stand....not even at 10 below.

For sure next weekend a heater and extra blanket may find the way out if it's windy again.

My brother shot a 6 pointer but that was it for our group. Deer movement was very slow. Wind was super cold! That was one of the worst openers ever around here. The local registration station usually does about 200 opening weekend, last weekend they did 100.

In my area the deer population is way down Heck you cant even find them at night shining.

we did fairly good last weekend. 2 good bucks, one spike, & unfortunatly 1 fawn (***gin idiot ). my dad is still sittin out there today hoping to get a big one. 4 deer for 7 people isn't too bad.

had a bow hunter hit one last week & tracked it until it was too dark to see anything. came out the next day & the coyotes had already found it...

we have an over abundance of them in lyon county & there was only about 20 doe permits. i think the dnr has to find someone that knows what they are looking for when they are "counting."

Pretty rough around home for my group too. Between the cold, the wind, and the generally confused weather patterns I think the deer were pretty much holding up in the thickest crap they could find. Maybe poking their heads out when the wind calmed a bit. Pretty dry start to the season though.

check out our new pet. We have fed it by hand a few times. (not good, i know) and our cat seems to have befriended it. Oh well.

I did shoot a 4x4 meat buck yesterday and got done hanging it up and shut the shop door. I looked over and the new pet came running up to me and sniffed my hand. Kind of weird.
