MM Chain Case Lube

I've seen posts on this forum and Totallyamaha.com of people using 10w-40 motor oil as chain case lube. I've done that, and no problems. In fact, there is noticeably less material on the magnet compared to other chain lubes, even after new chains and gears.

I have some sythetic Polaris ATV AGL lube that I use in the trannys of both wheelers. It says "for chains and gears" in Poo trannys. Good stuff as far as I can tell.

I have some AGL left over and I am wondering if this stuff is even better than 10w-40 for my sled chain case.

Not trying to go cheap here, just want to use the best stuff possible. I have not been impressed with Yammy chain lube or other "snowmobile chain lubes" because I see more material on the magnet.

Any thoughts about the AGL?

Eric

I would not hesitate to put that gear case lube in there along as it isnt too thick viscosity. I have been running Sierra synthetic outboard motor gearcase lube in mountain sleds for years.

chain case lube

I run atf mercon 5 in my phazer but woo ee big power here. and syn 75-140 in my 700 this seems to be good. I have been told u can run any thing u want by my local yamer dealer they said some of the racers take the cover off and run dry with only motor cycle chain spray lube. crazy i think. I will stick too syn 75-140 or atf.

I've ran hydraulic fluid (Case HyTran) for years with no problems. Stay away from gear oils for the simple fact that it's too thick to lube the pins in the chain at cold temps.

Bell Ray gearsaver 85 140 for over 15 years in 6 different sleds Never had anything chain case related go wrong it is thinner than conventional gear lube
