I was just wondering what everyone's opinion would be on running one of these kits in Mn. I have a 2012 KTM 450sxf and have build rear tires with studs in them in the past and also have ran ice screws in the tires. With the minimal snow we have been getting the thought of ditching my iqr for one of these kits has me thinking a lot! But if I am the only one of my friends to have one that wouldn't be very fun either. I am looking for input on the handling it would have for ditch banging and doing some Mn boondocking. Cheers

If I did purchase I would go with the MH as I get out west each year and taking the bike with would be a nice option to have a long. Does anyone also ride with sleds when they are on their bikes. Good riding is only 4 hours away in the UP of Michigan also. I am guess the ST kit would be the one of choice for one in my scenario?
All the videos I see are in deep snow. How would drive way approaches and jumps similar to that be? how is the top end? They look awesome but do they have the "wow" factor in 12" of snow like a bike can be in the dirt?

If you are going to be doing a lot of riding in MN, get the SX kit. Or, with the ST kit you could profile the track to make it easier to roll over. They can be made to handle better on the trail.

The kawi in this video has an SX kit and really seems to do pretty well in the deep snow.

Yes, 12" of snow is like riding on dirt. The SX Kit would be ideal for your combination of riding. In shallow snow or sled trails, you can rail the corners and pack the ski through the gears over the woops. Then in deep pow, it is as you see.... Awesome

I have the sx kit it takes big hits and jumps better but the standard kit with a Hawk track does just as well on hard pack trails. Gear it way up on the trail to run with sleds. My riding is with bikes and sleds they are not the same but any day out riding with friends is a good day.
The ski is always the limiting factor. I will try the new TS ski and see , for trails Bananna ski from the snow hawk may just be a good one.For racing the guys here use the sly dog ski with steel outer edges , they seem to work real well.

I am a local MN guy who has been building testing and riding snowbikes all over MN for the last 4 yrs, there is a few Mtn horses up in lake of the woods, and soon to be one of my kits too, also I think there is a few guys up in the iron range area with bikes as well, and another guy from the cities with a bike kit. S there are a few of us around to ride with if you want to rip.

ditch riding is pretty sick on a bike, bikes really revive the old boring areas you have been riding on sleds

If its packed tracked and frozen hard I personally would rather ride my 72 292 Lynx than my Timber-sled kit on my bike:crazy: Though after owning sleds and dirt bikes for 40+ years the best day of biking and best day on a sled were no match for the timber-sled in the trees and deep :face-icon-small-hap

Studded tires on hard pack might just blast but no on the Timber sled!
Just my.02 cents
