MH brake pad upgrade

Has anybody found a larger brake pad to use for the MH setup? It seems like the brake pads that come on the kits are really small, maybe that's as big as you can get them for such a small rotor but the braking performance could use some improvement and a larger pad would help.

Using what ever fluid the cap specifies can't remember what it says. I don't use the brakes that often but I would like them to be there when I do need them. I notice the worst braking in deep powder conditions, having the whole assembly covered in snow is sacrificing some performance but it is what it is.

I never seem to be wanting more braking power my track locks up when I pull the brake lever so I am not sure why you would want a larger one.

The real problem is that te brake disc gets coated in ice and it takes a second to melt it down to the metal befor the brakes start to work.

This totally sucks but I have not come up with a fix. I can not see a way to get the counter shaft high enough to make a complete brake cover.

The only option would be a full length shaft with the brke outside of the tunnel, there one could build a full cover simmilar to the chaincase one.

Heat would become a issue on a fully enclosed brake.

+ Cost complexity and weight.

when I used to drive truck in the frozen north the light fluffy powder would get in the drums somtimes (you dont use the brakes for hours sometimes)so when you needed them they would be slow and weak. so we used to just make light brake aplications and drag the brakes to get some heat built up and melt the snow just everyonce in a while

Yes same deal you got that right

I don't use the brake for a long time and then need to slam on it when hoping on a packed trail at that point it takes a second for the ice to melt .

99% of the time it is no issue but " If" you need it when someone cuts you of it is not there.

Lets put it this way no one would ride a bike with that much brake delay.

icey breaks

back in the day when I was building a woop azz mtn sled cat was experimenting with putting disc brakes in side the tunnel on the drivesahft, seemd like a brilliant idea. So I jumped right in on my chute climber. Turns out little droplets of melted snow freeze to your disc after hard use as the disc is cooled by all the ice and snow in the tunnel, the building ice on the disc keeps pushing the pads back and back and back, so the next time you hit the brake lever the master cyclinder doesn't have enough fluid dispacement to push the pads out to engage the disc, so you learn to make about three quick lever strokes when you want to brake.
I put on a BIG Big capacity master cyl off of a cat 4 wheeler made to run 4 calipers, made a difference, but never solved the probelm completely. When I built a cover over the disc the problem went away , but then the mongo master cyl would lock up the brakes by just brushing the brake lever, then hard riding an the cover would be ruin't and it was back to three storkes for brakes. Some poor guy is still out there riding this 180hp light sled with frankenstien brakes.............hope he's still alive.
