Meridian Idaho?

There is a job opening in Meridian Idaho I may apply for. Anyone familiar with the area? I have a first grader so school info would help.

As far as sledding, are there any trails nearby for sleds, atv's, etc? Right now I am in Denver so I'm used to 2 to 4 hours for trails and want something closer and a smaller town.

Yup, I live in Meridian and LOVE it! It is basically a suburb of Boise with lots of growth. Schools are good in my opinion (wife is a teacher). Snowmobiling can be found as close as 30 minutes away and all of the great spots are typically within a 2 hour drive such as West Mountain just outside of Cascade, Idaho and then another 45 minutes North you have McCall, Idaho. There are places to ride in every direction from novice to extreme. There are also tons of ATV trails within a resonable distance the closest being right off of 8th st in Down town Boise. A few miles up the road and there is a nice parking lot and trail heads that lead you thru the foot hills and up into the mountains. Send me your email addressand I will try to dig up some links for you to look at. Also check out the Idaho link in places to ride and you will see there are tons of areas to play in.

Frank,

Meridian is great.... I grew up there.... As heavy said, there is great riding from 30min up..... Personally, the best riding is ~2hrs, west mnt and brundage.... What exactly are you looking at doing?

You should be able to pick a house up for a good deal right now. Deffinately a buyers market over there. It is a very nice area. My uncle has lived there ever since I can remember. Good luck.

Meridian is a great place to live... lived here the last 10 years and before that I grew up between Meridian and Boise. Sledding is great just about every direction from Boise. You have the Trinities to the East, McCall to the north and Halfway to the West and a lot in between. Camping, 4 wheeling, boating, rafting, sledding, biking, hunting, pretty much anything outdoors is close by and some of the best in the west.

Schools are great and they have been adding a bunch of new schools to handle the growth. Housing is also cheep and someone wanting to find a deal can get what ever they want, it's a buyers market.

Yha if anyone comes here and says, "well, in California we did it this way ...." we just shoot them. Boise, Meridian, Eagle, and Garden City all about the same area (spare me the GC trailer humor). Good place to raise kids. Then you have Caldwell, Kuna, and Nampa, which are a little shall we say "rougher", but nice parts surround. Let us know if you want more info.

For your ATV, there's god's own Owyhee (sp) area. You don't have a big enough gas tank to drive across it, I think it ends somewhere near Las Vegas. :)

I live in Meridian and love it been in the Meridian area for 9 years. Spent 1 year in Nampa and in my opinion the Meridian school district is awesome. Nampa was not so great. My kids are top of their class and my son is on the honor role and starting middle school next month in advanced and honors classes. They also have several Charter schools that are awesome too.

Are you referring to the sugar beat factory in Nampa? If so, it stinks if you live in that area. I live in North Meridian (just across the street from Eagle) and the smell is not offensive out there...

Meridian

I live in Boise, Just a few miles from Meridian. My niece and nephew go to Meridian schools. Pretty decent schools from what I hear. Tons of places for snowmobile and ATV riding:beer;

Thanks for the replies. I may look into it. There won't be a decision unless an offer is made, right? The smell is no big deal, the Mrs. used to live in Greeley CO, which has the same issues - feed lots and sugar beets. I was more worried about decent schools as my kid is pretty quick and I'm afraid she will get bored later on if she isn't challenged- kind of like me. :)

The main problem will be being away from family, but mine live in the South, so it's no different for me.
