Love everything Memorial Day weekend stands for and love the pageantry of honoring those who sacrificed for us.
On a less important note I also love the Indy 500 but, like boxing, the sport has disintegrated due to poor management, horrible telecasts, terrible rules and, in some respects, the economic environment. This week ESPN Classics have featured a series of programs called Indy 500 Classics which highlight, in excruciating contrast to todays IRL, everything the sport used to be. These are absolutely an amazing series of programs and I highly recommend them to any fan of open wheel racing. Especially exciting when you cant remember who won. The broadcast team of Paul Page, Bobby Unser, and Sam Posey with Jack Arute and crew in pit lane has never been matched for creating non stop excitement.
Yes, I will be watching every second of the coverage. My personal favorite moments are: 1a.) the fly over, 1b.) call to start your engines, 2.) Back Home in Indiana by Jim Nabors, 3.) Lap 1 turn 1, ,and 4.) Lap 190 where my heart is pounding.
I am rooting for Bourdais, Allmendinger, Dixon, Kanaan, and Briscoe. Also hope to see the National Guard sponsored car this year and hope the ladies do well.
