Though I'd share this quick edit of my friends and I camping last weekend. Despite the advise of many, I tried to include my non-snowmobiling friends into a weekend at Mt. Baker. If I acheived my goal, my buddies will be buying sleds by next season.
Anyways, there were 6 of us and just my snowmobile, so I crafted a towable "gear sled" based on the concept of a dog-sled. To our surprise it exceeded all expectations and never tipped over. I was able to go uphill and down hill with the gear sled loaded. It is being towed by two old hyfaxes which provided some rigidity to assist braking and descents.
The skis were picked up from goodwill for $8, I had an old snowboard from my girlfriend, and purchased some 2x3 lumber. All-in this cost me less than $40. The ski's need replaced but at $8 they are expendable. The snowboard is raised above the surface of the skis by about 2" and is mounted "free" at the nose to allow the gear sled to flex.
Enjoy the video. I'd like to hear if any of you have ever built something similar.
