Meeker Colorado Flat Tops Avalanche Death

There was an avalanche death east of Meeker this weekend. Details are sketchy. I would guess there will be a Colorado avalanche center report soon.

VIctim found under 9 feet of snow... but take note of how small this hill actually was, this is the kind of small stuff people climb all the time.

my best friend died this year on same kind of slope, steep wall, 8 second climb, he tried to outrun it, and had no where to go because of the trees at the base, we dug him out, he was over 6 feet down and his sled was over 10 feet down.. we ve played on that slope for 12 yrs and now its a killer..

that is the problem with terrain traps. People often think that they are ok, because they are short, but if you look at it, they are the perfect angle to slide, and most of the time it is on a windloaded northern aspect where the snow is good.

It is pretty amazing how much snow is on a small slope like that sometimes.
