anyone have some info on motorhome camp sites in or around Medicine Bow or even a private lot around the Rob Roy?? any help would be appreciated, never been there in the summer

Thanks for the reply, what do you mean non-established sites, just places you can pull off the road? What are the temps like in July and August? Thanks again for your help

A few years ago I saw quite a few camping trailers parked by the west treeline in Cinnabar Park. Wide open and amazingly rock free. No designated sites, just pull in and find a spot.

Guess it would be more of dispersed camping... this is from the mbnf site: Setting up your own campsite away from developed fee sites, also known as dispersed camping, is allowed on most of the national forests. For comprehensive information on dispersed camping opportunities, please contact the ranger district office in the area you plan to visit.

Temps here in Laramie right now are running in the mid 80 for day time highs and I would guess dropping to the 50 at night. On the Mtn I would bet mid 70 to low 80 and 40-50 at night. Headed up there this weekend, will better insight next week.

As ColdFinger said, there are spots everywhere if you don't what a Forest service designated Campground.

Nice thing with the Rob Roy Site is it's a 2-5 minute walk to the lake no matter what site you get!
Last year we had one that was about a 5 minute walk to the Boat dock or you could walk out the back of the site and be at the lake in 2 minutes.

Temps have been in the 70s up there - a couple of weekends ago when a cold front went through it dropped to 29 and there was some frost - but generally it has been nice (be prepared).

The most modern campsite (and busiest) is by the Rob Roy boat ramp. There was lots of logging activity last fall around there to get rid of some of the beetle kill.

If you want to get away from people, just follow some of the FS roads and find a spot. There is some private land near the lake, so get a map and make sure you are on forest service land before you set up camp.

There are a ton of moose around there right now - the elk are a little tougher to find, but they are around too.

Just got back tonight from rob Roy area. heads up, 3/4 of the campground is closed. We ended up camping up in Cinnabar Park, as did everyone else:).

Right after you cross the lake on the road hang a right about 1 mile!

Enjoy!

Thanks for all the replies, new question, what is the closest road to the widow maker and how far of a hike would it be from that point? Thanks

If I remember right there is a road up top that goes to Libby Lake and Lewis Lake from Highway 130. Looks like at least a 1-2 mile hike from that point.

I haven't been up to that area in the summer in a while - so I could be mistaken.
