Mechanical Services Needed

I did some damage to my steering post a couple of weekends ago, when I came down wrong off a jump. I thought that it could make through the rest of the winter but I was wrong, ever time I did any type of boon docking or jumping my bar would sway way to the left. Each time I could torque it back, but I am afraid the next time I torque it back it’s going to snap.

I am going through a home remodel and don’t have the time to spend that is needed or the money to pay the dealers. Does anyone in the Cottonwood Heights area do any at home repair or know someone who does a good job with repairing Polaris.

It is a 2001 RMK 700, with a 136”

i had a buddy with the same sled as you that got a pipe with a slightly smaller diameter, put it inside the steering post and tacked the ends and it worked great. kinda ghetto but it handled alot of abuse.

I would say change it or rod it before you end up with the bars in your hand and fist full of throttle and no steering!

I have the rod I rammed down my 01 800. Just keep pounding till it hits the first bend then cut the top off. No need to weld it cause the handle bar clamp will keep it in. No way in hell it would move anyway.

The rod fix only helped for awhile the started bending a lot also. Order you a wildchild post you can even get it a couple inches taller and a little forward. I had on an edge that was 3 inches taller and 1.5 inches forward.

Depending on how handy you are the post replacement isn't bad. Take the air box off, pull the carbs and pipe(can't remember if the Y pipe needs to come off), undo the rear motor mounts and tilt the motor forward. Strap it or block it and go for it...Could probly be done in an hour if your good but I would say 3 at the most!

Edit: Ment to tell you I live in Bountiful and your welcom to this left over rod that I used.

I would rather just replace the post and get it over with. I have heard of the wildchild post from other threads that seems to be the right one to get. However I don't won't it any higher than my 3" riser because I don't want to change out the brake line and throttle cable. Thanks for the post and if I can't get to by friday I may take your offer on the rod.

Where do I get a wildchild post?

If you can change it in an hour or so you are the man.

I can't... the motor has to lift up. Maybe I'm doing them wrong, I lift the front of the motor and come in from the front with a long extension.

(there is a joke there somewhere I know).

The good thing about lifting the front is that you can also replace the broken front left motor mount while you are at it. :)

If I would to do this it would take about 5 hours, and a few left over bolts.
