Has anyone compared them? Not much $$$ diff. between the two. MDS you just get weights and with Carls you get weights, helix, secondary spring and derlin washers.

What elevation?

I have not compared them side by side. However, I currently have the Carl's setup and just bought the MDS weights as well. I believe I can get them to run TOGETHER. Helix and spring combo from Carl's is a must. Much better upshift and backshift compared to stock. I know guys that love the MDS weights too. Steve is a great guy and I will be bouncing my results off of him. It may take me some trial and error but I think I can get them to work and I hope to work very well.

Does anyone know how much the carls clutch kit costs and what is included with it? Couldn't find that info on their website. Thanks!

6000-8000.

I tried the MDS weights and the black spring he recommends this year on my '13 and am totally happy with them both. Really woke the sled up and great for crawling through the trees...... Good luck on your decision.

We have two options for clutch kits for the Pro's this year. The first option is just bolt on parts which would be a set of weights, delrin washers, springs, and our custom dual cut helix. These parts run about $270.00. The upgraded options for this is to send me your drive clutch and we recut the belt surface and install the weights and then rebalance the whole thing. This adds $175 in labor to the above listed parts. Have the cut and balance done will give you better engagement at lower rpm's and lower clutch operating temp. Right now all parts are in stock and there is only a two day turn around for machine work. You can use the promo code PARTSMW for a discount on parts as well.
Thanks,
Mike

Mine is there right now getting cut and balanced. I asked about adj. weights when I called and mike from Carl's said that the epi weights have the best profile for there kit to get the best performance.

MDS

Im running carls with mds and the weights were the biggest gain after 500mi with the belly busters put on 300mi now with the mds and its a nice combo

Can't attest to Carls kit, I was close to going that route, but talked to Steve and went w/ the MDS weights and primary spring.
I've also been running 3 delrins and a black/purple in the 2ndary.

Definitely pulls harder (than stock) throughout midrange and top end.
Better backshifts too.
Noticeable 'seat of pants' difference, so its putting more HP to the track.

Anyone else running just the MDS weights without changing the primary spring? When I ordered mine last year I never thought about ordering the spring... Does it lower the engagement RPM?

Thanks.

Joe

I have run the MDS about 15 different combos. If you change the spring you WILL like it better. It does lower it just a bit, it will not give anything up though.

Sure it will, it's going to squeeze the belt tighter in the mid where the power hits.

Dub -

If i leave my 140/330 spring in, what WON'T I like? Just a bit higher engagement? Harder to feather the throttle? Trenching??

thanks!

For 25$, I just went with a new spring.
I didn't try it with the stock.

It keeps the engagement about stock, at ~38-3900 RPM.
Which is boarder line for tree riding.. I personally wouldn't want it much higher than that.

not to anwser for Dub
but yes to all your Qs
i didn't like the hard engagement in trees i went to the black/green 120/340
rode it in deep powder and was much better than the 140/330

Agree 100%

You will like the black/green way better all around. You might not wheel stand on the packed trail as much but the power is still there:face-icon-small-win

That makes sense... Mine hits REALLY hard at engagement with the stock spring. Thanks for the input guys. I will have to get one on order.

Okay lets say MDS weights vs the polaris 11 series weights. Is adjustability the only thing i would be gaining with the MDS weights?

No! Steve machines and sets the weights up for each specific sled on his dyno (Pol, cat, doo....). They are designed for better mid range pull, belt grip and back shifting.

Steve rides a pro and will give you his set up!
