MCX DATA LOGGER HELP!!!!!!ATTN TUNNING EXPERTS

I cannot seem to get this damn thing to communicate with my laptop? I have dowloaded Megatune and data logger and see both icons on my desktop and also married the ports(com4) as per the instruction DVD provided. I think I am doing it right so here is a short description of what I am doing...I should also mention that I am running windows Vista

1 Opening up Megatune all gauges show up on my screen(laptop)
2 Turning my key on without running the engine
3 Plugging in the USB
4 I then go to settings to try and run a quick test with "no response"
5 It asks me to select a port via task manager and it says com4
6 I then go select com4 in Megatune and run a test and nothing
7 Have three beer and try again and......nothing

What am I doing wrong and am I trying in the right place to communicate?

Please help or give me a suggestion to try thanks!

Do you have the plug and play wires to your mcx? With that wires the ecm dont get any power until you start it up. The ecm get it's power from the fuel pump. So you have to keep the sled running during the transfer of data. Or you can cut the wires and make it look like the old system. :) If it don't work with the sled running and all settings are correkt it might be the logger thats busted. Have come across a couple of busted loggers.
Best of luck!

I had to test this since i have Windows XP in my snowmobile pc :).
I tested with my Windows 7 machine and it didn't work, so i guessed that Windows 7 must have newer drivers so i checked with MCX if they had any, they gave me a link where i could dl them, i did so, upgraded the drivers, solved, now it works.
Link for them, choose the newest 2.06.02: http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

Good luck!

Good find T bird. He helped me with my set up as well.

BTW logging ability is awesome you will love it.

Still no damn luck.....key on machine running etc...just not connecting? I am getting really discouraged and I guess I will need to find somebody local that knows pc's since at this point it's all computer science. I am just not that guy although I do think am I doing as suggested from t-bird and other helpfull tips from you guys on this site. Thanks and i will post my findings if I ever find them lol. Cheers

You followed my step by step driver installation?
If you want you can try one more thing,,,
In device manager you see which port display is using?
Change speed on that port to 9600 baud, you do that on the tab "port settings" (right click on the com port in device manager, choose properties, tab portsettings), there you have "bits per second", then u set same speed in megatune, restart pc with usb cable disconnected, when pc is running connect display, start megatune.
Good luck!

I know that sometimes I have to mess with which comm it is working on. I just keep changing and hitting test on megatune until I find out which one it wants.
