MCX 270 kit

How big of a problem has cracked headers been on the Nytro with MCX 270 kits? I am building my 2010 270 kit an am wondering if I should be going to the alpine header right away or if it is likely that I'll be OK with the stock header. Isn't there some slight differences on the 2010 header to make them more durable?

The first year with the 270 kit on my 08 nytro, I fought the cracked header problems. I finally took it to a local weld shop and they re-welded it. They also cut some small strips of metal and placed them across the welded joints and tacked them at each end. I rode all last winter at 17# without a header problem. My brother did a MCX 240 kit on his 2010 and we found that the stock header seemed to be reinforced a little bit from the 08. He didn't do any extra reinformcements and didn't have any problems.
When you have it off, make sure you apply compressed air into the header and check for small leaks around the 3-into-1 collector and seal them up too.

Only one guy responded with a cracked header. This can't be much of a problem. How about hearing from guys without any cracking problems and many miles they have on their header with the 270 kit.

my cracking issues seemed to have went away when I went tunnel dump. redo the welds right off the bat and ride. Just pulled my headed to inspect after season 3 and its fine for season 4 its fine.

Mine cracked in half after 3 seasons, welded it up last season and its looks fine to run another.

Reinforce it and ride.

I ride with a few. Guys I know that cracked, just welded, reinforced and have been good ever since.

i had mine crack all over mostly had the problem were the header is welded to the hanger bracket and were the mcx adapter to the turbo is put on. I think its key to do a good clean cut and weld on the adapter and re weld all the stock weld spots for reinforcing. I took the adapter tube cut slits in it and bent it down closer to the size of the stock header were you cut it off, and welded everything, that gives you way less gap to fill. The stock header is smaller then the adapter in the mcx kit. Do that and I think it will be fine. I had to replace my first header due to some very poor welding by the installers, it was just easier to start over clean. If it cracks out again I'll be buying a stainless one..
