McCall Avalanche Incident - Mar. 29th, 2014

Below is a link to information and photos of an avalanche that occurred end of last season just north of McCall, Idaho. It buried one rider in our group who fortunately escaped unharmed! However, we do believe that had he not been wearing an avalanche airbag system, he could have been buried much deeper which might have made it impossible to get to him in time. Hard to say what could have happened but the debris field looks like it was 10 to 15 feet thick where it all funneled together and settled. This was an extremely smooth and quick recovery because of the avalanche airbags! We've been in involved in one other rescue where the victim had a beacon but it took us 10 minutes to find him and when we did, he was under 4 feet of snow and not breathing however, he came too without resuscitation measures - scarring experience!

Let this be a reminder of how effective avalanche airbags can be!
