MATRYX SLP TWIN PIPES

The twins seem to be working a lot better on the 9R then the 850 from what I have seen.
Hmm well that is interesting for sure. I wonder why that would be. Still curious after some years if guys out there running the 850 twins like the setup and holding up. Theres gotta be some guys out there running it!

I pulled em off and running the single pipe for now and it runs just fine.... SLP says it's the QD2, they think its geared too low to build heat in the pipes.. maybe I will give it a try but I am worm out trying to get these to work (like some of the folks before me in this thread) Would have been nice to know that was an issue.
If you go with the original Kurts "gear down kit" it is actually a "gear up kit" compared to QD2. That said though I heard rumor that Kurts is now making a new gear down kit that is lower geared than QD2. Couldn't tell you if that's true or not but you could call or email Kurts and ask. Love the gear down kit on my 2018 600 and 2020 850. Another option is the TKI setup then you can try different top gears till you find the gearing that works. Just make sure you carry a spare belt with TKI. Seems like if you land hard with the throttle wide open the belts are prone to breaking.

Thought I would bring this one back for a moment. I dropped the kit on my '22 Matryx khaos Slash 165 w/ qd2. Did the head, pipes, latest OL flash (one without the brake recall), and Burandts clutching. the clutching more specifically the black and purple spring secondary and standard base weight magnum force weights for the primary with 4 set screws since i am riding between 6 and 9k and the blue and pink primary spring. The thing runs great and pulls insanely hard and spot on around 8500 + -. The issue I have is a bog in the midrange between 5000 and 6000 rpms at a specific throttle position probably around 30%. SO obviously this isn't a huge issue under normal riding conditions in the trees varying the throttle etc or climbing. where is sucks in when I am decending in the deep snow or sidehilling at a constant slower speed and definitely on the 15 mile trail ride in. I feel like it either wants to do 20 miles an hour or 60. Once the power valves open the thing gets going and quick.

Been working with SLP on this and have no complaints w/ the service except the fact that I still have the issue. They are pretty certain it's engine load and/or cold pipe which I don't disagree because when I really rail on it it runs great until a minute later things cool off and it goes back to midrange bog. when I say rail on it I mean multiple hard pulls WOT in a row.

1) tried adding weight to the primary - just takes rpms away at top end. currently at SLPs recommended 65.5g
2) check all spark plug connections
3) new plugs
4) new belt
5) track tension and belt deflection
6) I pulled the head wondering if that was the issue and the stock one did the same so the power domes went back on
7) have tried lots of different helix combos 60, 62, 64 initial and 42 secondary angle
8) recorded engine performance and SLP saw nothing out of the ordinary with fuel pressure or anything on the spreadsheet except cooler pipes
9) had the exhaust valves re learned
10) no exhaust leaks anywhere
11) good fuel with recommended lucas octane boost.
12) had the TPS checked

I'm running out of ideas here! Next thing SLP recommends is going to the QD1 for higher gearing and my other thought was to wrap the pipes (which SLP recommends against). I have seen quite a few folks on here who have done that it just surprises me that some have no issue at all or don't notice this midrange issue as much as I do. Maybe I am being too picky?!
In regards to not building heat in pipes you could have them coated by Swain Tech. I had an old 1996 Ultra with triple pipes. Back then it was popular to ride around with the hood off in the spring but with triple pipes and the hood off it took a minute to warm the pipes up. But once the pipes were warm it came on strong. I had the pipes coated by Swain Tech and it kept the pipes hot so they were always good to go. Swain Tech puts on an actual thick ceramic coating that's first purpose is to contain heat. Versus ceramic coatings done by pipe makers that are more for looks and protection than thermal management. Swain's coating is a bit rough / coarse but it works good.

I've got a 2022 850. I rode my buddies 850 with twins a couple years back and loved it. Thing was raspy. very weird throttle response down low but as soon as you punch it wow it was a beast. I see some saying they have had nothing but problems. Is there anyone out there that loves there SLP Stage 2 twins kit on an 850?
I've have them and the slp stage 1 kit on my matryx since 2023. I've had zero problems

Heck yea! That's what I like to hear. I'm thinking about doing the stage 2 kit with power domes. Did you do the 6-8k or 8-10k clutch kit? I ride Tahoe surrounding area mostly from 7-9k elevation.

I’m in Tahoe as well and if I remember correctly it’s the 6-8k I talked to a friend that’s an slp embassator and I run no screw in weights per his advice

Well, i pulled the trigger on the full slp stage 2 kit. installed in a couple of days. also threw in the Alt impact lightweight parts kit while i was in the clutches. all i can say is, "wow" this sled absolutely rips night and day difference. I'm loving it. I think a big part is the clutching. I'm spinning about 8400 consistently in heavier Tahoe day old pow. they say these shine at 8500-8700rpm so i'm gonna pull one set screw on each weight and see how that feels, but even where it's at now its a huge improvement over stock, I'm a believer in the Outlaw Twins!

I run no set screws, in my opinion thats the prime set up

Interesting, I was running 4 in each weight and pulling around 8400rpm. I pulled 1 in each weight so now 3 set screws and 1 lock screw. Curious what kinda RPM and elevation you're running with 0 set screws.
