Maritime Law?

Shouldn't this fall under maritime law...I thought it was finders keepers if it's in international waters or out of Spains. It doesn't give detail though.

I think typical salvage siuation would be a Maritime free for all. I think Spain is using the fact that this ship was a military vessel and that they (Spanish Military) consider its wreckage a cemetary based on the sailors that lost their lives. I'm sure this won't be decided for a while. EW

A fascination of mine is reading/watching/listening to stories about treasure hunters.

In this particular case Spain has claimed that the ship was part of their Navy and because of that they think they're allowed to reclaim it's contents at anytime even if someone else has done all the leg work.

If it wasn't a military ship and it was found in international waters Spain wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
