Manual shift transfer case vs. electronic on 2007 duramax?

I am looking at a used 2007 4x4 Duramax with the manual floor shifter for the transfer case. Does anyone have any experience with these? Pros and cons vs. the electronic push button shift. Can you shift these manual models into 4 hi while the truck is moving or do you have to stop the truck and put the trans into neutral before shifting to 4 hi?

Thank you for any info.

you can shift them on the fly just like the switch engagement. Personally i like the manual engagement because you pull the lever yourself, and actually know when its in, with the automatic switch, you are relying on a little light.

yeah but even with a manual you only know that the transfer case is in. still have the front diff to lock in. the electric is just fine. sure there may be some that have problems but what truck doesnt? Just like the old days of saying automatic hubs were junk....i wouldnt want to be without them now. never have to get out in the middle of a mud hole to put the hubs in anymore!

I have an older 3/4 ton gas Chev with a manual floor shift to engage 4wd, however the actuator for the front diff is electronically controlled. So even with a floor shift, its not entirely mechanical anymore. There is an electronic component.

Thanks for the info guys.
I almost went with the manual shift truck. But, today I drove home a 2007 GMC Duramax with the electronic shift transfer case. Paid less and only drove 45 miles instead of 290!

Finding a clean used Duramax wasn't easy!
