Man killed in avalanche near Wolf Creek

be careful its bad and getting worse!!!!

MINERAL COUNTY - The Sheriff's Department says a man was killed in an avalanche is on scene of an avalanche death just north of Wolf Creek near the Lobo Overlook, in an area that is not frequently skied. One of the other men was injured, and the third was not hurt.

The avalanche was reported around 12:30 Thursday. Mineral County Sheriff Fred Hosselkus says three men from New Zealand had been skiing in the area for a couple of days.

"They weren't completely unfamiliar with the area," Hosselkus said. "We were on scene just 20 minutes after the call."

The names of the victims haven't been released because the families have not yet been notified.

Hosselkus says the avalanche danger is extremely high right now.

........COME ON........

The avalanche danger has been pretty consistently BAD this year. Is it worth it???????? One is TOO MANY. Thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends.

I am not sure how many that makes this year but i never remember hearing about this many!!

be careful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Six deaths so far...13 in the states. Colorado has the most deaths since records kept. 1950- date. With around 241, AK next with 132. Its rated as considerable through out the state right now. Be careful, with this being a holiday weekend, I am afraid that we will see more activity.
