Making your own boot

I don't mea riding boot I mean like, literally, the same type of boot you would have on your gear shift for a vehicle with a manual transmission ...

I recently replaced my rider select on my 900 with a rigid brace, and it's solid and set up well, but there is a gaping hole where the stock plastic once was.

I am trying to come up with a way of making my own boot that basically fits in between the stock plastic console shroud and comes up to form around the steering post, virtually exactly like how the boot around a gearshift on your pickup would be...

Anybody know of anything you could effectivley make and form your own boot out of?

I am almost thinking about going to the junk yards and looking at wrecked econoboxes and trying to steal the shifter boots off them or something, but I thought i'd see if anyone had any ideas.
