Make my MBRP can re-packable!

Has anyone ever seen the guts for an MBRP can?
I want to take mine to a local welder and have him fab it so it comes apart and is re-packable like a dirt bike silencer. Just wondering if anyone has any insight on if this is do-able for a reasonable amount of work.
I don't know if the same applies to sled twins... but when I re-pack my Honda CR250 silencer it runs stronger for sure!

sounds like a good plan to me..would you just use the same packing you did on your dirtbike?

you can try calling MBRP and asking them if they use a specific packing and maybe get them to sell you some?

keep us posted if you talk to them!

Oh I would just use some generic 2 stroke silencer packing from FMF or Pro Circuit. I do my dirt bike silencer regularly.
I think the only issue with the packing is that the can on my 900 has alot more circumference than a bike version, so it may take some creative layering to fill it evenly and not too tight.
But that is all minor details if I can get a welder to do the fab work without emptying my wallet. Maybe I will get it all cut apart and ready so there's less work on the clock. I might even be able to do it myself depending on the internal construction. My biggest concern would be how the core fits in there and how I would get it (the core) to slide apart / back together nicely.

An interesting side note:
The service interval in my CR250 shop manual for the silencer packing is 2.5 hours!

That's a little extreme, but I can honestly say that after about 20 hours the exhaust noise is starting to increase, and a re-pack at this stage always gives me back some throttle response and power.
Mostly though.... it's just getting too loud and I'll be damned if I spend $300 a year on a new silencer when all that is really needed is $10 worth of packing.

put a pic of the can up here!

chances are that theres just an inner perforated tube that goes straight thru, and is just tack welded to the inlet and outlet pipes.

i think its crazy that soo many sled exhaust cans are NOT re-packable, but i thought i've seen some MBRP's in catalogs that were rebuildable

Years ago I ground off the weld and repacked the canister then rewelded it, got the packing from Recreation Supply in S,toon

I talked to my welder buddy about this yesterday, he seemed to think it would be straight forward to do, but I didn't have my can with me to show him. On his next set of nightshifts he said he will take it to work and check it out.

Well, I got my can back, it's re-packable now, it's not real pretty though.
Dude just created a 5 x 6" door on the back, enough for me to get inside. I don't have a pic, and I don't know if I would post it anyways lmao!

Oddly, the perforated core is way larger in diameter than the inlet or outlet of the MBRP can. There was almost no packing left inside when he opened it up.
