I like the idea of the tube style boards, but wanted something a bit different. I built 4 sets for 4 different XTX. My sled is a 09 so I also changed the running board angle, with some Timbersled MTX drop brackets. They are ready for powder coating, but will have to wait till I get my new front end arms made up. Agin I like the idea of the +3 a-arms but wanted something a bit different.

Those look GREAT.

They don't look like alum. How do they compare for weight?

Each board weighs in as 3.3lbs. The old stock running boards that I cut off, came in at 3.9lbs. So with this mod I lost a total of just over 1lbs for the sled. And a cost of just under $200 for the pair. Now if I had made them out of all round tube, the cost would have been less than half at around $80 for the pair.

bamboo you did a great job. here are pictures of mine for anybody else who is thinking of doing this, they are great and only cost me $50 in alluminum. It was not that bad of a job and i love how they turned out

No labour, welded it my self and the cost for round is 1/3 the cost of square tube. At least where I bought it from.

nice workmanship but did you have a set of skins airframes to copy or what right up to the traction screws they suck a**

No airframes here to copy. I was inspired by the idea. But I just did a bunch of cut and paste until I had them how I wanted them. Im not 100% sure on the traction screws ether. But I have them tacked in place. Well see how they look once the powder coat is on.

Options Besides Traction Screws?

I've got a set of Airframes I am planning on installing this summer and am also not crazy about the traction screws? What are you using instead of the traction screws? Some appropriately placed TIG welds?

Bamboo I have rode with traction screws on for a year about 1000 km no issues what so ever if anything they stop you from slipping and smashing your body or legs on the running boards. And it is good to not have to 2nd guess your footing when you get in a bad situation. i would leave them on if i were you. just my opinion

i used wing walk used on airplane wings painted on over painted airframes worked great and looks good

I hear where you are coming from but a coarse coating like that tends to build up snow and ice. We tried a "gripper" type powder coat this year and that was the result that we found.

I personally have never had an issue with the traction screws ripping my bibs or boots, but normal everyday sheet metal screws will be less aggressive if that's what your looking for.

not at all with this product never any build up did you coat them complete i only did strip on top off outside and on top off each rung i could see ice building up on completely coarse boards
